Calling all APA and/or ABA breeders!

There are still those of us who visit on occasion and even more rarely comment. Yes, we tire of the cutesy terms such as girls and roos, because we prescribe to a written Standard that adheres to strict terminology when it comes to the sex classification of fowls. Having been a member of both associations and a life member of the APA, I can say that the cancellation of shows has been a disappointment but has not ended the fancy. We who are serious breeders will, with or without shows, continue to breed our fowl and adhere to the Standard in all aspects of our programs. As with all things, we as Americans will get through this crisis as we have all others and will be stronger and more resilient for having endured. The shows will re-open and life as we poultry breeders know it will return to normal.
I am certainly enthusiastic when it comes to poultry and enjoy all who share in that enthusiasm. I have kept all types of fowl over the last 48 years and plan to continue until my wife finds me one day, passed away, sitting in my chair with my birds around me.
I still get excited when the first chick of the spring hatches and grow eager with anticipation at what the future holds for that single chick. I think it is the newness that comes from each day raising poultry that keeps me in the hobby, not organizations, shows or standards. In the end I genuinely love poultry and the people who enjoy keeping them.
That being said I am embarking on a new adventure raising three very rare turkey varieties: Recessive Slate, Regal Red and Chocolate. I look forward to working with and securing the future of these rare varieties. I also breed Large Fowl White Faced Black and White Spanish, Black Minorcas; Black, White, Brown, Mottled and Blue Cochins; Bantam Black Cochins, White Wyandottes, Wheaten Old English Game, Silver Spangled Hamburgs; Gray Toulouse Geese and Bronze, Slate, White Holland and Auburn Turkeys.
I thank my wife and daughter who have tolerated my obsession and supported me through the years. I love you both!

Blessings,

Bo

Turkeys! I love turkeys as well, and wouldn’t mind seeing yours.

I’m so happy that you all replied and there are still dedicated breeders on here that adhere to the standard ! @Bo Garrett I’d love to see those turkeys, at shows the cages are often so rough on their tail feathers they look really thrashed by the end of the day. @EmilyRobb I’m from district one, and also young and relatively new to showing and breeding as well, I’ve noticed that if you seem serious about your birds the more experienced breeders really want to help you out and give advice.
@Amer I love your d’anvers!! I’m a sucker for anything with a beard

Haha don’t worry about it.
This is my current problem, which is why I used a splash.
Yes, that is a blue.

Now the blues are a decent shade with lacing... but it’s a super uneven decent shade. Oh well, I love a challenge.

That is beautiful. My son just started with D'Uccles. They are a beautiful breed but hard to find here.
I hope shows start back soon so we may be able to find others. Do you know anyone who sells hatching eggs?

Nope, I don’t know many d’Uccle breeders, I’m only familiar with the d’Anvers folks.

I tried to take pics.
It’s annoying because the Buckeyes ignore you to the point that they don’t ever turn so you can get a nice profile, and then the d’Anvers pay attention to your every move so they’re always facing you rather than turning sideways.
Most of the Buckeye pictures are of one cockerel I really like and keep following with a camera. There are a couple of others with promise.
They have nice type, heads, and tails.
The one I really like is the biggest but with almost perfect hackle color while the other I really like is the second smallest but with lots of black in the hackle.
All are mostly filled in, but still need to grow hackles.
In this hatch I got 8 cockerels and two pullets, I’m afraid.

I really love this blue quail pullet, Praline. All of the pullets are currently in the middle of growing their tails.
I have many pullets, but they all look quite similar, which is a terrible excuse. I’ll take more pics later I guess.

Blue, black, and cuckoo d’Anvers which are unfortunately caged and therefore hard to see.

Ripple, a splash cockerel, though he has the self-blue phenotype.
