Calling all Homeschoolers

One I guess. We're in difference states so the answers to my questions may vary, but I'll ask anyway.
I have a flock with ALV, Avian Leukosis Virus. Being aware that showing is a factor, and other poultry related stuff, is it okay that I wont be able to bring my own birds? Do you ever use your own birds other than shows or?
Thanks, I appreciate the help! ☺️
Okay so! For business meetings no you never will bring a bird, those are every month (unless you get a email saying otherwise) and they just tell you announcements, like last time, they told us we would go to a church and make cocoa and cookie handouts, if i wasnt there i wouldnt have done that, and it was really fun! Anyway, IF you choose to do poultry, you dont have to, then you dont bring a bird if you dont plan on showing one, but usually you would because poultry in 4-H probably wouldnt be as fun. I specifically bought chickens seperate from my house chickens just to show at 4-H, making sure they have pretty factors, as im trying to win the medal.

keep in mind you can do lots of things combined, say beef and cattle & poultry, or arts and crafts & poultry, or arts and crafts beef and cattle
just know that thats all the more meetings you must attend and more work to preform!

its also important to note whatever you choose you need documents, you need to choose something to write about. for example, i choose to write about eggs! Egg schedules of my chickens w/ the weight, color, who its from, and time. You could do that, or you could document feed cost, or something long term as a project.

hope that helped, sorry for the ramble!

also sometimes they do zoom meetings instead if the virus goes up or something, so you could just bring your bird to the zoom ones.

Wow that sounds fun! I might have to see if there's a 4-h in my area!

Cool! Okay, that sound doable. That did answer my question, thank you!
One more, you said you bring other birds than your pets, where do you get those birds from that you bring? :p

We area homeschool family here! I've been doing it for years, and really enjoy it! My hobbies are horseback riding and art! I am way more into horses tho lol. I'll ride either english, western, or bareback, but I mostly do barrel racing. My mare and I ended up getting Grand Reserve Champion this last year. Who knows if we will try again this year, shes been lame for no reason for months... well obviously for some reason. We just cant find it. Shes dead lame on the left front with no swelling or sign of anything. We did x rays and flexion tests and all sorts of stuff at the vet.(we are having a re-check with the vet this week). The vet hasnt been able to find anything and neither has the farrier. I also have bad tendonitis but we are working through our issues together! Homeschooling is nice cuz we can work around these obstacles without issues.
About your mare, get her tested for PPID.
Any horse that comes up lame for no reason should definitely be tested for it.
I hope it's not that, but it's always a good idea to be on the safe side.

So! Theres table top shows and poultry meet ups EVERYWHERE. they are spectacular, wonderful birds chosen by educated people. Theres some huge ones that happen annually and some that happen every month or so here! You should look up what are in your area, also, if not, 4-Hers also sell them, the shows at 4-H do, and other backyardchicken members! Got mine from table top shows though!

difference of 4-h shows and tabletop:

tabletop is about the bird and its tricks and their on a small table, people sell birds there to. *not related to 4-h*
tabletops often mean tiny chickens like seramas, sebrights, bantoms. Cochins, all of that! but they will say, like Serama tabletop, or bantom tabletop! Best one is bantom to go to cause its more of a viarety. Easy to get into, and every bird small is sold there! Silkies, cochins, seramas, everything.

4-h moreso focuses on the persons skill, and little of the bird, but it does get you a higher chance of winning for a pretty bird, and of course, not all 4-h shows are exactly like that, depends what you enter!

I'm homeschooled by my parents and I use Khan Academy.

My hobbies are biking dog training reading and playing video games.
I want to be a police officer when I grow up.
Do you like Kahn? I'm using Edgenuity. Some of it is really simple, and other aspects seem too difficult for grade level. It's also very predictable and lessons follow a particular pattern.

Edit to add that I'm a mom homeschooling my 2nd grader
