CALLING ALL MOTORCYCLE DRIVERS - Motorcycle Driving and Etiquette

Yes, you are absolutely right!!!! I just goggled "crotch rocket" and that is exactly what I saw on yesterday. Did I use the correct name? Is it still a motorcycle or is it another name? As you can tell, I know nothing about motorcycles.

Thanks for letting me know what it was.

They are called sports bikes. The other type is cruisers.

Is the cruiser a large "scooter"?

I hear people saying scooter. Is that the correct name? Scooter? What are the big ones with the "bucket/side car" on the side?

Scooters are complelty different. Cruisers and like Harley style bikes or the honda goldwing. And the things on the side of them are called saddle bags.

If you go to google look up Harley Davidson bikes. Those are cruisers and if you add saddle bags to your search you will see the "buckets" lol

Anything else i may answer for you?

I think we have a thread here showing off some of us on our bikes. I, too, have a cruiser, and try to behave myself. The geometry is such that the front wheel won't come off the ground. Too bad the dummies don't realize the steering is in the front.
And for all you pros out there, I know what can be done on one wheel. It just is stupid to do it on a public road, with a bunch of scared 4-wheelers around you. JMO

I agree. I am the ex owner of a sports bike. I have never been abused it or ever popped the front tire up. The only time that happened i was on the back of a friends and he did it with out warning.

I actually traded mine a month ago becuase of saftey reasons and all the careless people. Plus the day after i traded it i found out i was preggo so even more happy i got rid of it.

With few exceptions, the younger motorcycle drivers seem to go for those things. Yes, it's still a motorcycle, but designed more for speed and maneuverability than it is for comfort. We frequently make five, six hour trips on DH's harley and despite my spine issues I can be completely comfortable on the back of it. I wouldn't last 15 minutes on the back of a crotch rocket.
DH and I once witnessed a young guy on a CR not only speeding through town (40 MPH speed limit) but doing wheelys and texting while doing it. Had DH been on duty, that guy would have received so many citations he'd be middle-aged before he could pay them all off.

This is what DH's bike looks like:

Not only are the "stunts" you see them do with the CRs impossible with a bike this heavy, but trying them on it would likely leave you with a $24,000 pile of junk.

The proper term may be sports bike, but I don't know a single motorcycle driver that calls them anything but what they are, crotch rockets. Or maybe, rice burners.

ETA: DH is all the time talking about getting me a HD sportster. No thanks, I'm quite happy being a rider. I try and talk him into modifying his HD into a trike, but that'll happen when a certain place freezes over.
