Calling All New Brinsea Owners!!! February Hatch-a-long... PRIZES!!!

Six out of seven finished out fine. I wasn't really sure they would, since my Salmon Favorelles were just throwing their first pullet eggs about a week or two before. The number seven stopped partway, poor baby.

Shell felt "sandpaperish," not good shell, so maybe got infected with the too porus shell. Whatever, I'm very pleased with the performance of my mini. Hope they all turn out to be girls!

I just finished a hatch in a mini advance last week. If you look at your manual it says have water in NEITHER, one or both of the water pots. My humidity was way too high the first week as I filled one well. If I just used a drop in one well, my humidity was 46%. I weighed my eggs every other day and got my humidity in line. It's all chronicled here https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=70557-my-first-hatch

I
lost seven of my hens today to a stray dog, so I'm just getting ready to set the eight eggs they laid today before being taken out. March hatchalong anyone?

Dang it! I got my new Brinsea Octagon 20 Advance EX last week and just set 6 Marans eggs last night, but they won't hatch before the contest deadline.

However, I'm sure glad to hear such good news about the Brinsea incubators! I had a Little Giant before the Brinsea, and it was a total pain to keep everything regulated. I'm so looking forward to fewer sleepless nights this hatching season!

I have my first hatch in a used one I got online here. They're not due until March 3, but the temp has never wavered. I got the Hygrometer in the reptile section of the pet store, and it seems pretty good. All my experienced hatching friends rave about the brinsea.

We used the supplied rails with the Octagon 20 to support the eggs standing up. The last few days we removed the rails to allow the chicks room to break out.
