but I'm not liking how much weight they have lost... I supose it is normal to second guess everything until they hatch?

Well, I ended up with 3! Only one of my shipped eggs made it, and two of the D'Uccles I got locally. They were staggered, so I don't have a pic of them in the bator at the same time. All three are doing great! My bator gets a day or two rest and then is gonna be fired up again.....I have some barnyard mutts and silkie eggs to set!

Are you still waiting cause we are.

Yep, not even a single pip. I candled again to see if anyone had even pipped into the aircell and nope. I don't know if I should wait another couple of days or just open one up and see whats what. I'm on day 23.

Guess, thats your call. I hatched 31 out of 48. I tried to candle but I never had any luck . The eggs are brown so I never saw anything. They hatched a day early & then another one hatched on day 21 & then the remaining eggs started stinking so I used them for bait in my trap & caught 2 coons. Good luck!! I'm gathering eggs now for another hatch. I need 25 pullets for my new coop & no roo. One of the 31 that hatched died at birth so I doubt I'll get 25 pullets from the remaining 30 so here I go again. I'm gonna hopefully load 48 more eggs & get the pullets needed & sell the rest. I hope, I've never sold any chicks. I'm thinking $3.00 each. I'll have to sell a bunch of biddies to re-coop my inital investment for the bator.

Soo sorry.....what a disappointment....

Well, I'm done for this hatch.

I decided that I would float test the eggs and none showed any movement so I did my autopsies. Of the 9 eggs only 2 were fully developed chicks, the other 7 quit around day 13. The 2 developed chicks, 1 looked like it died around day 18, the other had its head in the small end of the shell and so probably suffocated.

Sigh.

Well, on the bright side the remaining 6 quail that hatched out last week are all doing wonderfully and are feathering out really well. Its crazy how fast those buggers grow! Even the one chick with the injured leg (thanks to the cat) is all healed up and doing fine. Now I just have to hope that they all aren't roos.

My quail hatch was 83% with a survival rate of 50% (again thanks to the cat). My Lav Am and BLRW hatch rate was 0%

Good luck to everyone else!

If you are close to the recommended weight loss of 13% assuming chickens, it should be fine!

I'm closer to 16%
