This is wonderful news! And Homer is definitely showing he's a GREAT boy! Taking care of herGood evening everyone.
Life has been busy and I am almost 2 weeks and 80 pages behind.
I do have someone special I want to introduce to everyone.
Meet Eggy! Possibly subject to a name change the more I get to know her.

Now, I know she looks rough. She is about 19 months old and has started to go through her first real adult molt. Eggy was given to me by my boss in exchange for Ducky the little silkie with 5 momma's who I raised for her. I received her yesterday when I dropped off Ducky. Eggy is supposed to be a sweet girl. I have left her alone and not pushed myself on her today but she will come eat out of my hand so I do believe she will be sweet when we get to know each other. She did not lay today which does not surprise me given the fact that she is in her molt and changed homes, but she lays a green egg. I honestly would not be surprised if she did not lay again until next spring. I also would not be shocked to go out tomorrow morning and find her bald as she is dropping feathers fast. She had a full tail yesterday. Eggy also has a new bff, she has taken up with Homer and sticks to him like glue. I cannot wait to see her transformation as she comes out of her molt. She looks so much like Owly that when Betty offered the trade I could not pass her up.

YepTime to Meet the Rest of the Girls
The initial release was a complete disaster. Aster, Lady Featherington, and Sydney invaded and assaulted. At one point Lady Featherington was trying to ride little Joy.
I was forced to physically remove the 3 of them.
Only Aster came back. After several discussions Aster understood my position and has not been chasing them. She will get a peck on if they get too close but it's not malicious like the other 2 were.
One great observation was that anytime Tilly or Joy squawked out. Niamh came running to see what was going on. I love that.
Perhaps their terror at the Bigs will bring them closer together.
The first chance Niamh has to go into the house she took and left her new friends far behind.

After the initial attack and separation, the Phyllistines did enjoy some time by the garden together.

Once the big girls settled into a cracked corn induce torpor, the Phyllistines went under the magnolia tree. I was eventually able to get a photo of all 8 for the first time. Can you find them all?

Why? Just curious…If she were my bird, I’d call her “fun’l cake”!![]()
The last week the diner has been closed so we could clean everything and move to the new location. I was able to get home a couple hours before dark and I've been sitting out with big girls free ranging. I've been taking notes on both boys and their behavior. Homer and Juice are two entirely different boys. Juice and Georgina are on their own now, Gryffyn is done with them. I've made great strides with Georgina and she is soo friendly. Juice, well, Juice remains Juice. He does not like to be handled at all. He will subject himself to a crop rub at night, and will stop protesting fairly quickly for a overall health and feather check but he hates to be held. What he has going for him is he is very alert. He is constantly scanning the skies and hillside and he misses nothing. He is respectful so far of me and to date has shown no hint of challenging me. I'm watching though. Right now the poor lad is getting the stuffing beat out of him by the big girls. He is being taught the hard way how to woo a hen. Mrs. E and Siri are taking great pleasure in thumping him if he even crosses a toe out of line. I have to say I feel sorry for him, but it is for his own good. This is wonderful news! Personality wise, Homer sounds very similar to Whiskey (and the 2 boys who went with the pullets: right there learning everything from the adults). I love hearing about the young cockerels learning to be smart! The last week the diner has been closed so we could clean everything and move to the new location. Homer on the other hand is a total sweet heart and love bug. He has been though since pretty much day 1. As far as rooster education goes Homer has had a better education. Davy and Barbosa have taught both him and Q well. Those boys have watched them like a hawk and have started copying them. They tidbit for everybody, Homer is learning to build nests for the girls and when I let the silkies out the other day to clean their coop, Homer danced politely for Squirrel. Juice has not learned to dance or tidbit yet.
Based on my observations Monday I am going to integrate both Homer and Eggy in with the big girls. Homer is big and I do not need him turning his attention towards the silkies. Maybe, just maybe Homer will help bring Juice along.
