What is wicking and what's a wicking pad?

ok so the wells in my brinsea are really deep so what I did was buy a wicking pab made for humidifiers..bent it and palced it in the water well-then folded the other oart under the egg holder-it allows the water to slowly "wick" spread up and onto the whole pad and give more surface area for humidity:)

Cool. Yeah, I have the Brinsea Eco 20. Very dry here in the winter and I have been testing mine getting ready for hatch. Tough to get the humidity up with just the 2 wells. Where can I find these wicking pads?

anywhere that sells humidifiers-grab the ones that expand like a flat pad and grows when water is added not the netted hard looking ones-if worse comes to sorse double fold a piece of paper towel and do the same thing!!

Maybe I should just stop messing with it, but my humidity seems low so I try to bump it just a bit and end up over 55% this is my first hatch so I am a little paranoid, it is ok to have that much fluctuation? Is it better to be low than high or high than low? I have both channels fulled did have a small piece of rag but removed that when the humidity got so high. Any advice?
