Calling All Old Cast Iron Lovers.......

I personally never pay full price for anything. Love a steal!

Is it vintage/antique? The Eibleskiver pan I got was about $4.
Not a Wagner, but works just fine. Have you checked Ebay? Sometimes you can find the rusty/gooey stuff no one wants to deal with and get a bargain! My Halloween pan was from there!
I've wiped mine down with olive oil before, worked fine.

I too , along with DH collect cast iron we currently have 110 pieces. I like Griswold, but especially like Martins and Nationals. I clean mine in several ways..usually in the self cleaning oven if really bad we have a drum of "lye water" that we soak them in, that is a last resort. I season with lard....btw..be careful with the "burning off"..(leaf pile/wood stove)..it can warp or crack them. We used this method when we first started our collection and had this happen.

rnoyster..are any of your griddles marked?..looking for Martins (Martin Stove Works)

Well, Paul & I took yesterday off and went on a search for more cast iron. I bought 2 pieces. Don't ask me how much.

Around here the only way to get a bargain is to go to yard sales where some people might not know the value of such things. Anyway, I'm happy with them and they were on sale...............

I found a Lodge! It was all rusty and sad looking, I think I fixed that.

And this one on my front step for seasonal plantings, someone even put 2 holes in the bottom - just what I was looking for.

great find Luna!! I love my dutch ovens..especially in the winter..as for pictures..I do have some..will locate them and post later. Most everything is packed in crates for the eventual move to Florida.
Do you have any estate auctions in your area?..that is where we have found our better deals..and at yard sales..found several hammered pieces at last years famous "127 " 600 mile yard sale.

Love that stove..our home here in Ky was a former Amish home..it had an Ashland wood stove..very plain..but worked beautifully!!

I have a big cast iron skillet that I've had for 40 years. I always fried chicken in it when the children were young. I still fry chicken in it and make gravy. I have a small one also that we use a lot on the grill. I have three of the old time irons that you put in the fire to heat. As much as I hate to iron I can't imagine using one. I have sevral iron door stops also, along with trivets and all kinds of antiques.

No way!!! You've got it all wrong!!!!

The "right" way is to give the pan to one of the dogs for a few minutes, then put the "clean" pan on a hot burner to "sanatize" it

I looooove cast iron, that's basically all that I use. There are several skillets down at the antique store that are older and better than mine, but I don't have space in this house for "collecting" so I just use what I have.
