Calling ALL Pekin duck people!!! HELP ME

Have you tried looking at your States thread here on BYC? Looking for an unwanted male Pekin is about as lucky as you can get. I would be really really surprised if you can’t find one near you for free. That’s already an adult. Your girls are so sweet. And like others have said, you 100% have 2 girls.

As far as holding your ducks, don’t worry too much about it. We had to routinely pick up two of my girls for my son to show in 4H this summer. They got to where they didn’t mind being picked up. And one of them actually ran to me for safety the other day because it didn’t want to mate with my male! I’m not saying you have to handle them.;) I just don’t want you to worry down the line if you need to if they are hurt or need meds. They forgive you if you bribe them with treats. And Pekins more so than any other breed I’ve had. Good luck with them!!!:wee

and Where at in VA? I am only 30 miles from the VA line where I live

I will PM you! I'm on a mission to rescue a bunch of domestic ducks that were dumped at a park! If you want more ducks, and you are so close, you really should consider some of these. My advice going forward, if you get a drake now, is to only get sexed ducklings or juvenile/adults where you already know the sex. It's a complete gamble getting straight run ducklings - which is why there are so many drakes in this park that I'm referring to... Hard to find homes for drakes and they just get dumped. If you sell them on CL, you have to let them go knowing that they could end up on a dining table.... Anyway - I'll PM you :)

I dont pick them up daily but I do make sure I rub them daily, even though they don't care for it. I run them leaving them on the ground and they dont mind as much(kinda like them saying hurry up and get it over with and let me go) lol if they dont want to go in the lot at dusk I pick up the bigger female and take her in and the smaller gladly follows her friend. When I do hold them they usually just sit calmly it's just catching them first!

did he sound different? A woman up the load has a single male duck(poor baby) i know he is lonely, and he has a very quiet raspy voice and the curled tale feather. I stopped and left a note but never got a call. I was going to see if they would mind me re homing him since he is all alone and every time i go by the house he is always sitting on the porch at the front door and the owners are NEVER home! I know they do best with other ducks and much like chickens if they live alone they actually can get lonely and sad.
Yes lol they do! It’s almost like a deep mans voice lol that how I always think of it lol! Hopefully they let you re home him that would be perfect for a trio!

When I first saw him outside last year I stopped and talked with the couple and they started with 2, male and female. The female was ran over when the man was leaving for work one morning, so sad! The boy has been alone ever since. I feel horrible for the guy because all the research I did in ducks said they need to have others and can get lonely the same way chickens do isolated. And knowing he just wanders the yard alone all say is killing me. I also know he is here pet though and if someone ask me for one of mine I would think they are crazy! So I know it's a shot in the dark at them letting me have him, I sam going to have to stop one day and talk to then again. I left a note last time nobidy was home. And let them know if they did let me have him they are welcome to come see him anytime they want!! I literally live less than 4 miles from them. Fingers crossed for the drakes sake
