I have uncles that served in the Army in WWII, an aunt that was a WAC, an uncle, USA, that lost part of a leg in Vietnam, but my Dad, sister, brother, daughter and son-in-law are/were all USAF. Only my daughter and her husband were deployed into a war setting, but I agree with teach1rusl, when you enlist, you know the possibility exists that you may be going to war and that you may be a target anywhere because you wear a uniform. Not a day goes by that I don't pray for those serving our country, whether they serve in a "safe" or "hazardous" duty position, and for their families that serve with them.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the vets and their families for their service. NEVER believe that your service went/goes unnoticed.
