calling all wild bird feeders!!

You did real good... not a kill deer it is a Brown Thrasher you did get the chickadee it is a black capped chickadee...  I think there was some kind of geese mixed in with the cranes.. They flew over for about 20 minutes and They were so loud but beautiful then headed to the North... I have never seen so many together.... I really enjoy the birds in my backyard!  God's creatures great and small... 

The common geese around here are the Canada Geese. I see the flocks of Sandhill Cranes in the Spring and Fall. The reintroduced Whooplng Cranes were flown through here with the ultralight and they will flock with the Sandhill Crane. The range maps don't show any redpolls coming near here. So I think that is a Chipping Sparrow. I need to work on the Sparrows. They are so similar I can't tell them apart.

Luckylee I cut my message short today. Betti came in and said that they were preparing to transport the daughter-in-law back to Emory to check the shunts. They don't don't seem to be draining well. The surgeon said that she would be in the hospital 2 weeks and it has been over 2 months.

We have had some new visitors to the feeder area in the past few weeks. I finally set out the game camera to get some pictures.

This guy lives under the main chicken coop. He follows the trail I made from there to the house, then comes up through a tunnel through the snow to the deck.





Recently he has brought friends.



I am surprised the owls haven't found them yet. I heard 2 great horned early yesterday morning while I was out shoveling.

Other local bird news is these guys taking over a parking lot. Canada geese have taken over another parking lot nearby. Waterfowl are having a difficult time this winter.

Prior to today the most male cardinals around a feeder has been 5 - new record 6 feeding in the same area at the same time. It's been snowing ever since last night. The feeders were very busy today.

Hi, sorry I have not posted on here in a bit, I have been kind of under the weather..

I saw a pair of house finches or purple finches today, at the feeder. I got a picture but as soon as I snapped it the last one flew away, a nuthatch chased it off.

It got up to around 70 today with forecast in the upper 70s for later in the week. The Goldfinches left last week but the Cardinals are out in their brightest plumage. I saw a pair of Red Tailed Hawks circling and courting on my way home this afternoon. Sourland I do beleive you are right. Spring is almost here. March 15 is the average last frost day in this neck of the woods. It is time to start a garden!

Raining steady wet birds of all sorts. I put up another feeder pole and it took a day for the cardinals to decide it was ok they were exceptionally rowdy yesterday and had th finches all scared off large flocks of robins and I think starlings on the move back north

Spring is slow to move north. While I have heard Cardinals, song sparrows and great horned owls calling and establishing territories, finches are slow to change colors this year. Goldfinches are still rather drab. No signs of blackbirds. I did see one vulture last week. Usually by mid March the migrating flocks of robins start to return but this year there is no bare ground to be found.

When the male redwings finally arrive, I start thinking that soon it will be spring. They are not here, yet.

IT has been strange here, it is 2230 hours and still nearly 60 degrees outside and I have the windows open,

Not a lot of birds here today, I am thinking the spring like weather has them eating elsewhere.

I have had some smaller finches here, But I am not sure what they are, they are not much bigger than a wren. I actually thought it was a wren until I got a rear view of it.
