calling any one from missouri

5 weeks, if I had my coop done they would be outside, the Austraulorp still has some down, she has been slower one to feather out. Working on the wall and floor framing today in the little garage. Have to stop too often due to breathing breaks (getting over bronchitis, asthma and high humidity ugg) also the dogs at going nuts, someone nearby is setting off 1/2 sticks: they are terrified. Chicks are in the basement, they don't seem to care a lot but are a bit more chattery. Back to work.

My garage about to put a coat of paint on the floor frame for the coop

Looks like the rain is mostly ended for a bit and now the July hot invades.. Typical. My 4 coop wall frames are built and the floor frame and joists are painted and awaiting assembly. The weekend will be assembling the frame, floor and hope to get the walls up. Then next weekend put some grandsons to work on the roof and whatever is left.

Jeria, that's great! It's finally all coming together! I'm sure you are excited. I'm sure the chicks will be glad to move outside to!

SW MO peeps, the Newton county fair in Neosho is going on right now. We just went to see the chickens and ducks and turkeys this morning....

My chicks are enjoying spending much of the day in a 4x8 fenced raised garden bed, they have just discovered dirt baths. I had transplanted asparagus into it and it didn't grow so not much in it this year, straw and a few weeds and grass. I need to toss some netting over the top as I will have some work to do in garage soon to make sure they don't decide to take a trip and a tarp for some shade this afternoon.

Hot day, wishing for more of a breeze. Thankful for all the recent rain as I'm able to pound deck/fence supports into the ground for the corners. 2 in 4 more to go, actually it should be a total of 7 but I only bought 6. One of the run corners will wait until tomorrow. I hope to get the floor mounted by tonight. Lunch break over....

Today we went to the Neosho poultry swap at Southside Feeds. There were about 8 vendors, including a couple of young brothers selling these bantams. The sign said $8 each but before I could even open my mouth to say we aren't actually buying anything today, the big brother offered them for $5 each. They told us the birds' names. I wanted the rooster, Cinnamon, but we aren't ready yet for a rooster. I even considered going back a couple hours later to see if Cinnamon was still available, but I resisted the urge and we've been spared dealing with a roo....for another week at least. Neosho's swap is the 2nd Sat. of each month.

So so stressed and so sad. Caught by a neighbor to chit chat in the front yard. Dogs in the backyard, chicks in the fenced raised bed. Somehow Bosty mix jumped the fence or something, haven't figured it out yet and killed all 4 of my chicks, she was laying inside the fence. She had not paid much attention to them previously. I'm a basically a country kid so can just adapt and punt but hate seeing animals killed. I have 4 more ordered, same breeds.
