Try a Sheltie.

I just lost mine at 13 yo and she was fearless. She did not specifically protect the chickens per se, but she was territorial which amounted to the same thing. I saw her drive off three coyotes one afternoon. She was not a lap dog or a Velcro dog; she spent her time lying on either the back step or the front step, surveying her domain. She kept our ten acres clear of intruders, from squirrels to coyotes, so my chickens could free range. She was noisy, I'll caution you on that. When people came around, she alerted me, but she was just noisy, not a biter. She roamed with the chickens, leaving her scat along with theirs, and the coyotes apparently respected her boundaries. I know there WERE coyotes, we can hear them. She stayed home although we aren't fenced; our driveway is half a mile long. My point is you don't need a big dog, you need a good dog. Good luck!
A larger dog is my preference since we have bobcats, foxes, coyotes, black bear and as of very recently mountain lion sightings very close. In the community facebook group somebody had a boxer get attacked by a mountain lion just miles away, . I have a basset and pitbull who are both very protective but when night comes they snore through everything lol

Before it got hot this morning, we went down to the Jasper County Youth Fair in Carthage.
Some really pretty chickens and livestock there!

Harvested honey from my 1 bee hive this year.

My friend checking the moisture content. It was 19%. It’s not supposed to be above 17% so I will let the harvested honey sit in an open bucket in a spare bedroom to let more moisture evaporate before I bottle it up.

The honey from my hive is a vey dark color. Tastes great!

My friend’s hive is about 15 miles away from my hive but their honey is much lighter in color. Also tastes great!

I got about 1.5 to 2 gallons of honey.

One of my grandsons helped me pick blackberries today too. Now I need to find a good cobbler recipe
