First off what kind of environment was she rescued from? Alot of rescue agencies would probably label her a shepherd mix as alot of people shun pits, who by the way are not all bad and aggressive. I would veto out those rare breeds mentioned. Not many people would have a them. Almost every dog that is a mix has shepherd, lab, beagle and etc in them. When I first saw the face I thought pit. Not all purebred dogs look alike. It is possible for lab crosses to have skinny tails. Poor breeding causes many purebreds to look bad. Whatever your dog is the personality is what counts and it seems you have a lovely dog and that is all that matters. I too have a mix breed and for the life of me I am stumped on what he is mixed with lol, probably 5 different breeds. Maybe I ought to post his pic and she wahat others say.

I say German Sheperd/Lab....be surprise at what a Lab/mixed with sheperd will look like.....

I would say pit bull/german shepherd/ other mix. Pit bulls are terriers. I think as far as breeds go, I would stay on the more common breeds. One of the parents could be a mutt. She just doesn't look like there's only 2 breeds there.

This lovely dog appears to me to be a "bully" breed mix - there are so many types of these dogs in the world that everyone seems to apply pit bull traits to them both positive and negative. She is an individual and she sounds great. The dna testing via cheek swabs at this point is only relevant and worth the cost of such test if you know that the company has in stock the mapping of suspected dog breed genes. Right now they don't so I would not spend money unless you want to be misinformed. I own a pitty mix dog who is my all time best dog and does not display all classic signs of pittydom - good or bad.

Yes mixes can look every which way-well I got some pictures of my shepherd mix ready and tommorrow i am going to have someone help me post them so you can see if you want to (by the way i do know what her parentage is and the behaviours sound very similar) Kris in Wisconsin

Again, as I have said, I really have nothing against pits. The ones I have known ALL have been very friendly and well mannered and I would really have no problem whatsoever owning one; however, do to our newly elected neighborhood committee manager, who has a prejudice on pits and other bully breeds, she has started spraying gasoline on dying embers of an incident involving a pit mix and young child that happened about 4 years before I moved to this town (this is a good 9-10 years ago!). So because of her vile attitude and strong dislike for pits, she is pressing for us to do a blood DNA test (because someone said that Sabina looks like a pit mix - talk about rumors spreading like wildfire)...yes, it's more expensive, but more accurate than the cheek swab. If my dog is found to have a bully heritage, I will be forced to give her away.

ya'll are gunna think i'm nuts but i'm thinkin' there's some chow in there!
(and i agree, probably some pit, lots of GSD etc. etc.)

p.s. sounds like this busy-body neighbor needs to find a MUCH more constructive hobby! sheeeesh. people.

I looked at the pics again and see now the legs are "normal" not short. The first photo, portrait head on, looks almost exactly like my lab-mix - called a GSD lab chow mix. I see no shepherd in her, lots of lab bur her body shape is not at all GSD, with their way of carrying the hips low. I actually see a bully top line - hips taller than shoulders. You may never know so you better do some research to protect you and your dog. Yesterday I stumbled across a number of websites pro and con on this issue. Try the phrase "prosecute the deed not the breed". I remember seeing that in one particular interesting site.

Oh, and I see the chow in that front shot - like my girl - in the shape of the muzzle and the skull, which is not at all dome-like when compared to every pure Labrador that I've met. Theirs always seem to be rounder than my dog's.

Oh, and try getting down to the dog's level. You get a great picture if you can keep them from coming up and licking you or the camera.
