Again, I cannot even begin to stress how much I appreciate all of your support and advice regarding this issue. I'm sure everything will work out in the end... but it's just so stressful right now, and due to other issues, we really just take take anymore drama at the time. We actually met the town supervisor in person at one of our neighbor's New Year party. He seems like such a nice man and (without really knowing about the issue at the time) actually met Sabina and played Frisbee with her. He thought she was a great dog, so I'm pretty sure he won't let anything too drastic happen. We did speak with him based on this persecution and he requested that we agree to the DNA test just to shut the lady up. He believes that if we make a huge deal against it...it just looks like we're trying to hide something. He thinks this is a very stupid issue and a huge waste of time and effort, but if we agree to "cooperate" with this psychotic woman, that perhaps she would back off just a bit and realize that we're not trying to cause trouble. He personally respects us, our rights, yatta yatta yatta... he even offered to reimburse us for the test.
I'm not really all that into Law and Politics... my dad is handling most of this matter. We know many influential people in the area, many are already backing us up.
We did manage to find some info on this lady...nothing too bad, but it can explain a bit...she and her family (husband, one son) moved here from Sacramento OH in September '06 (rumor: her husband cheated on her and also became an alcoholic, she felt her reputation was tarnished and they moved), her husband is currently in between jobs, she was a stay-at-home housewife...breeds labs as a hobby, somehow got elected on our town's committee as neighborhood manager....
People say she's real bossy (as if I couldn't tell for myself). Many do not like her at all but are tying to give her a chance to settle in and such.
There was an incident involving a pit mix who attacked a young girl in the area about 9-10 years ago and she just wanted to make sure the neighborhood is safe and is really stressing the homeowners insurance thing. We're not the only ones who are being jumped at about this.... a neighbor down the street as 2 Dobermans and has a sign outside saying "Beware of Attack dogs" yet his dogs leave their property numerous times... I can see people being more worried about that, but he's pretty well off and is paying the extra tax. Another couple has an American Bull dog, wonderful beautiful animal, there was some fuss against him, but after he got cancer and the vet had to remove a limb, things died down a bit... I guess it's because he can't run as fast anymore, so he's no longer a threat... (not that he was to begin with).
The issue with Sabina began more as a joke.... friends would get her riled up run around, wrestle with her...call her pit bull or dingo just for fun, etc... she's not an aggressive dog, being an abused case she's suspicious and a bit timid around strangers, but once they speak to her or pet her she's excellent. She's still young, loves to play, sometimes gets too much into the play, tends to jump, mouth, and "play-bite" but it's nothing hard, she never clamps down or breaks the skin; she always wags her tail. The one thing she does not tolerate are other dogs. Supposedly her ex-owner, he had other dogs too, would kept them crated all day, no proper socialization, would put some food in the middle of the room and would then let them all out to eat.... so they had to fight to eat; so you can tel when she sees another dog she gets all excited wants to play, but then if they get too close she gets so nervous and lashes out at them. She's gotten better with that though.
Everyone around here says that the pit bull thing is a joke and that they do not really believe she has any in her, at least not enough to count for anything; they see some lab in her but others think she may have some boxer or chow in there too... All say she is mostly GSD - no doubt.
So that's the scoop so far, we weren't hassled at all this past week, which is a good start. I'm just so nerve wreck...I'm going back to college next week and I hate leaving things the way they are. I guess we'll see....
Again, thank you all.
