Suddenly... I have 4 broodies!
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say..

They don't like to brood in the buckets.

Count your blessings!

At least they aren't brooding in hollowed out silver maples, one mile down the creek in a mud lined nest or in a thicket of brambles like some peoples ducks.

(This is a first) my Muscovy Dolly is broody in this. Usually just right in the shavings. I’ve taken all eggs because for 12 yrs I had 4 Muscovy drakes and as much as I love my ducks I never want to do that again. As it is now I have 1 muscovy and 2 Runner drake and a gander and having to keep the peace is crazy! So no duckling this year even though it breaks

I'm sure they would be if I let them out to roam.

They definitely don't mind laying eggs in the buckets. But they did not decide to brood until I removed some of them.

Have you thought of using burial urns for them to brood in?
