I bought this hen last fall as a Cameo White Eye. Now I am seeing the orange feathers on the wing. Not long ago @DylansMom was asking about some orange feathers on one of her birds and I am wondering the same now as she was then.

This is the normal color of cameo, beside sex-linked hens can't be split to another sex-linked color. That's what got me confused last month

Thank you Q8. I have seven other Cameo hens and some of their offspring and none of them have any color like this one so it made me wonder. I sent the pic to Brad last night and he also said that it was not carrying any Peach.

Now to figure out why my other Cameos don't have that bright color on them.....

the story that came with them indicates that they were mixed with a lot of splits, BS, Pied, White, WE, and IB that I know of. They seem to be like a box of chocolates when their eggs hatch out.

I have 3 cameo black shoulder hens, and they don't look the same, I could notice little differences between them. Also had two cameo hens both are 2 years old, one is much lighter, i'm thinking because she is w/e. I have seen many cameo hens in person and on the web and noticed some differences in the colors between them, maybe some of them are darker because they have some green blood, and some are lighter because they are carrying w/e genes?

I think you have hit the nail on the head. There are sometimes other influencing factors.

I would trust any information given by Brad but I would still wonder what might be going on. It is the exploration of these small differences that could lead to new discoveries as we have recently found out. Since this hen is sex linked cameo, I would be curious as to what a male would look like with these genes or see if even expresses.

For instance lets just assume the orange wing is a little tweek on the normal cameo color. I would define the hen genetically as IB/IB:Zcx/W. The "x" next to the "c" indicates a little different "c" than normal. So you breed her to a normal cameo male IB/IB:Zc/Zc. You get the following:
IB:ZCX IB:W
IB:ZC IB/IB:ZCX/ZC IB/IB:W/ZC
All of the boys produced would be cameo but they would be split to the mutation. Would they have orange highlights? Who knows. You could then breed the split boys back to mom and see if you could get the IB/IB:Zcx/Zcx bird that would carry the mutation.

This is how new stuff is created.
