Camera - Finally got it! Pic on page 5

I wouldn't expect the camera very early. It seems that Amazon is beginning to make you wait if you choose the "free shipping". Order a torque wrench and IR impact gun a couple of weeks ago. I chose "free shipping". The torque wrench shipped a couple of days later and the impact wrench went to "preparing your item for shipment" status....which also stated that I could not cancel, change, add to, etc., that shipment. It took them almost a whole week to "prepare" the wrench shipment. I think they intentionally shipped part and drug their feet other part of the order. Oh, and they shipped both packages by USPS. Ah well, the shipping was free and we were not in a tight for the tools. Just thought I'd mention it so you don't wear the window out looking through it for the delivery truck.

Excellent advice. Short story.... My brother and his wife were heading to Illinois for my SIL's mother's funeral. They stopped at the Cracker Barrel in Prattville, AL for dinner before heading out for the long haul. When they had finished eating and came out to the car they found that someone had knocked out a window, stole her purse and old *Bible*. Her Bible was in a leather zip-up cover and we believe that the thieves thought it was a pistol pouch. We just hope the thieves opened the Bible...

Best wishes,
Ed

I'm coming a bit late to this thread, but congratulations on your new Canon and lenses. I think you made the right choice, because if you had compromised on a cheaper body, you would have most likely ended up selling it a few years from now and getting the better one anyway. Your camera will give you years of service and through the years, if you really get into photography you can add a few lenses to the system which will give you even more flexibility.

One day I'd love to upgrade my DSLR body. Right now isn't in the cards, but I'm patient and my current system works very well.

I'm just wondering to myself how long it will be from when the courier drops the new camera into your shakey little mitts until the first pic is posted on here!!!!

Suggestion: go and borrow a battery from your uncle and have it charged and waiting so when the box of electronic magnificence arrives you don't have to sit and wait for the battery to charge before the fun begins.....

Congratulations.

Welllll....

After a lot of troubles with Amazon and my debit card, I think I FINALLY got everything in order. Turns out there was a $300 spending limit on my debit card, which my dad and I must have placed there when I first got the card. Of course I didn't remember this, but that is why the system kept kicking my card out. I had three days to fix the billing issue before my order would have been canceled and today was the third day. The kicker is that Amazon is completely out of the camera I wanted (Except for mine which is hopefully on reserve and will be shipped to me) and the package deal that gave me $250 off the telephoto lens is no longer in effect. So if I lost (or lose, which might still be the case) my order, I will be out of luck and will have to buy from somewhere else. This morning my dad gave me his credit card to use and I can pay him back. Amazon was being a bit quirky about taking his card number this morning, but it looked like it went through the last time I tried it. My order wasn't shipped as of yet, but I also haven't gotten an email telling me my order was cancelled. Hopefully the darn thing will just ship tomorrow! I would be disappointed if I lose out on this awesome deal

FourPawz...That is an amazing picture! Looks like your camera is working pretty well for you! How do you like the sigma lenses? I've read different things about them, but its seems to be mixed reviews on EVERY lens I look up.

And I will definitely be very careful with my camera as far as theft goes. I shudder to think about someone stealing something that cost so much! If I bring it somewhere, it will definitely be locked away in my trunk or at my side!

Well finally my order went into preparing to ship status, which means the payment most likely worked. I've typically had good luck with shipping from them but it's possible they may drag on this one depending on whether or not they actually have the camera in stock, which is my other fear. When I ordered the darn thing, the camera was in stock. Hopefully they don't send me the lens and then realize there are no more cameras! It's saying the delivery date will be the week after next and that would be fine with me, as long as it gets here! I just chose free shippping because the 3-5 day shipping was ten dollars more and in my experience the two have been pretty much the same! I hope its the case with this camera as well! I do have a feeling they won't ship today because of the holiday weekend. That's just as well because it won't go very far anyways!

I ended up going with the canon 50D. Apparently it's being discountinued though because canon is in the process of coming out with a new body which I'm thinking will be the 60D. B&H still has some of these cameras in stock, but it looks like everywhere is selling out quickly because of the excellent prices. The body alone used to be well over a thousand and now it is closer to $950. The kit (Which I ordered and will hopefully receive!) is only $1100, and the price drops almost every day!

Sooo...after much worry I FINALLY got my camera! It came early yesterday when I was at work and Amazon must have shipped it overnight because it came the day after it was sent. I was shocked! I wasn't supposed to get it until next week.

I'm still learning about the camera but I took it out for a trial run today. It was a yucky, humid, cloudy day, but I am happy with the results! I do have to read more in the manual to find out how to change some of the settings.

Here's my favorite picture so far. There are a few other really awesome ones, but I haven't uploaded them yet. I think I want to enter this one at the fair! I took it with my 70-300mm lens.
