I am afraid our buff orpington Camilla may to a roo. She or He is approximately 11 weeks old. Her comb developed very early when they were in the brooder. Her feet are huge compared to her sisters. No crowing but she is most definitely the dominant chicken. However, not aggressive towards our dogs, which I would think a rooster would be. Any thoughts? we bought sexed chicks from our local feed store & I know that when buying sexed chicks, there is a 10% chance of error. Of course, with my luck.......

She seems to look more like a hen, if she were to be a rooster than her wattles and comb would be much larger at her age. She would also have larger tail feathers and be more colorful.

I would agree that that is a cockerel, for multiple reasons [darker coloration in the wings, start of pointy hackles and saddle feathers, large and red comb at that age.] sorry :(

I would say it was a hen although the colouring on the wing does relate to a rooster but we had a buff Orpington rooster and he started crowing around 8 weeks so I think its a hen :) . good luck finding its gender.

You have a rooster for sure. Hens just don't have that much comb and wattles at this young age. Plus, the leggy, gawky look, the darker shading on the wings, the thicker legs....those all spell boy.

As to his behavior, even though he's male, he's still just a baby. Orpingtons can also be slower to mature than some other breeds. Not all roosters get aggressive, but you need to start deciding on his future, keep him or get rid of him.
