Camping food ideas anyone?!?!

These ideas are all totally fabulous!

A lot of these ideas are things we have done in the past, but some are new. I truly appreciate all of the ideas! It's getting my brain in gear anyways!

I completely forgot about making banana boats! We used to do that when I was growing up all of the time and it was a tradition that was lost I as had kids of my own. Thank you for that idea! That is a definite to do this time!

No slow cookers where we are going. There isn't any electricity.

We also cannot hunt for our food as we will be camping in a National Park and that is against the law, other than fishing. I'm not sure what types of fish are available, so we don't usually do any fishing. If I still lived in Colorado I'd most definitely be fishing for and eating trout for dinner!

Where we are headed, there's not any trout.

I think I'll call the visitor's center up where we are going tomorrow and see what they do have available in that area though.

We take BIG onions, put butter and a beef bouillon cube in the middle, wrap it up in tinfoil and put it on the grill, in the embers, what have you.
They are delicious!

Well I may repeat some since (shame on me) I didn't read all pages. But here are some of my fav's.
I cook up taco meat at home and store in zip bags then ya just heat the meat up and ya can have tacos or taco salad.

Cut tators in small chunks fry em with onion, bell pepper and choice of meat like brats, sausage, bacon, bits of bird that people raise for eggs etc. Then when the mix is all done scramble some eggs over it and roll in tortilla add salsa or ?? to taste.

If ya have a small grate to put over the fire actually a nice med bed of coals and hardly any flame (this is a redneck thing) . make grilled ham and cheese sands. They are great over the fire and if ya don'thave a grate ya can always just find a nice forked green stick to lay the sandwhich on while cooking. The grate over the fire also makes real good burgers and steaks. The chickens are safe here they take too long to cook.

pork chops have been on sale for a bargain here lately...

pork chops
baked beans
corn on the cob
watermelon

and can't forget the pancakes in the morning.

what else?
cheat and do a tuna or a hamburger helper meal.

My sis and her youngest teen dd just took a train to Maine and camped for their vacation. She said the first night they arrived really late so they had Dominos delivered to their campsite.

After that they had lots of tuna and peanut butter sandwiches. It's the poor man's meal. Oh but they went out on a lobster boat tour and the guy gave them a lobster so they took it back to their campsite and went to the main cabin and watched a movie with "Larry" (they named it) and then he started foaming at the mouth so they went to their tent site and used what they had to cook him up. And they had Larry with a bowl of tomato soup.

ooo ooo... tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches... that's a good one.

1 box of stove top stuffing
1 can of green beans, peas, corn or any favorite veggie.
1 7oz Swanson's Chicken in a foil packet

If you have a pot to cook in put in liquid from veggie, drain chicken into pot, put in stuffing season packet.

Once it starts to boil drop in chicken and veggies.

Take off stove and stir in stuffing mix. Let set about 5 min then fluff and serve.

We love this for backpacking trips.

NOT to be your mother..... Nat'l Parks is "what we do" US and Canada, we've been there... Dont forget about Bears. We literally saw 9 bears in 5 days last summer. We really have clean/non smelly camp down to a science.... Super pungent cooking odors just dont come with us. That does not limit you though, just something to keep in the back of your mind.....

....ummmm, and BACON for the morning. Smells soooo good in the morning air.

Do they still make those shake container type pancake mixes? They were really convenient because I think you just add water into the container they come in and shake then pour.

They actually have had a problem with bears in the recent past where we are going. Everything gets put up and sealed tight at night.

BTW, I was wrong in saying we are going to a National Park yesterday. It's a State Park and this is where we are going - http://www.ncparks.gov/Visit/parks/haro/main.php We love all of the hiking trails and the kids have fun meeting new kids / adults.

Breakfast isn't an issue. I'm just trying to come up with dinner / supper time meals. I think we are going to do hotdogs the first night w/ s'mores, a chicken in the dutch oven meal w/ grilled corn on the cob the second night w/ banana boats, and I haven't quite narrowed down what we will do the last night yet. I do know we will do a peach / pineapple cobbler in the dutch oven though! That is a camping tradition for our family and I will be in the doghouse if I don't make it! So I guess I just need to come up with one more evening meal idea. You guys have given me so many, I'm sure I'll figure out something now. Thanks for all of the help!
