Can’t get rid of lice infestation on chickens

Parasites apparently love Florida. :tongue
Everything wooden that goes in my coop gets sealed with paint first. When I built it, all parts were painted before they went in. Having no raw wooden surfaces, open cracks and crevices, for them to hide in has helped immensely. I repaint when needed.

Keeping everything as dry as possible helps. I use sand in my pens. It doesnt create puddles like nasty mud puddles, it doesnt wash away and it dries much quicker than dirt or mud. It helps deter parasites and it's easier to scoop poop. Mud or wet soil in a pen is a breeding ground for cocci, giardia, flies, worms and bacteria.
