Our rooster is a Light Brahma and huge. We lost a barred rock hen tonight - I found her in the coop, laying flat, face down. I haven't turned her yet (waiting for hubby) but she looks like she is in the position they get when the roo is mating them.

He is really vicious with all the girls, and like I said, all but this one have bare backs. Is it possible that he just got overly aggressive and killed her or maybe he is too big for her?

Yes, I had a Brahma named Julius that we had to butcher because he was too aggressive. It is likely that he could have killed her. I would separate him and you'll probably have to butcher him. Be careful though, he will get more aggressive after you separate him, so I wouldn't do it unless you are sure. I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you can get everything sorted out!

Thank you so much - I'm 99% positive it was him - when we went out to clean up, my husband picked her up and her neck was wobbly, so I'm pretty sure that means it is broke. I'm posting him on Freecycle.

I was mad at her too, but you haven't seen the poor hen (they, really) were chasing. Poor girl has 0 feathers on her back because they chase her and pull them out, that's what they were trying to do again. They managed to pull out all those feathers when I went on vacation for only 2 days. My mom was just p***** at them because they are constantly chasing the girls, but that's the only one they can get a hold of, because she hasn't realized they can't jump.

I wish she would have handled it differently too (Note: she said she threw the duck, but I think she just picked him up and he flapped away and fell) but now they have learned their lesson and don't chase the girls anymore.

silverfox, don't call my mom evil, that's just rude. Just because you heard one sentence about one incident about a total stranger's mom does not give you the right to say that. Did your mom ever tell you that if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all?

Trust me, it is not natural instinct for one duck to hold a hen's head down by holding his but over her head while the other one pulls out her feathers, that is evil. I have never done anything to these ducks to make them try and fight my roosters, and pull out my hen's feathers, they just do, for no good reason, they're jerks.

what you have to realise is that birds cannot think like humans, they cannot reason or understand that doing this stuff is wrong, if you have different birds who cannot live happily together, it is your responsibility as the owner to either seperate them or rehome them, you certainly never act in anger and " throw" a bird, ( your words) what sort of reaction do you expect to get from people who respect and love their own birds?
