Can a rooster produce just hens?

Out of all the chicks I have hatched out of my rooster (8) only one has turned out to be a rooster. Do my roosters genetics produce hens? Or am I lucky?

Female chickens carry the gene for sex determination (I think the same is true for most, if not all, birds). You're just lucky.

Lucky, out of 5 iv'e hatched this year 3 are roosters and all 3 boys from the same hen. I think the hen is behind what gets baked not the roo. Iv'e got a doodle factory.

Definite luck, or your girls just lean towards more hens. Did your one roo come from a hen that produced hens too? Scenerio here, three hens were bred. One egg from 2 seprerate hens both hatched as hens. 3 eggs from another hen all roos "ok, one im 90% sure is a roo other two are soild dudes.

I was wondering the same thing. I have one roo and have 3 mother hens. 5 out of 5 chicks are females. 2 of the mothers are silkie (partridge and one white) and a bcm .

It's luck. The more you hatch, the closer you'll usually get to the 50/50 ratio (over all your hatches). Our first batch of straight run chicks that came from the neighbor were 6 hens and one rooster. We've never had that luck again.

He came from a hatchery. I ordered 4 buff Brahama bantams. 3 were roosters an one was a hen. Does that make a difference?
