Can an Ayam Cemani have a white tongue and still be worth alot of $$$?

From what I understand they are born with the all black pigment. I don't think it gets darker with age but I would LOVE to hear from experts. I tried to find a thread on here about this breed but I could not find anything with much information... Anyone know the best place to learn more? Here is my lightest birds' feet. She is standing funny but you can clearly see her nails are light colored.

How much would an AC chick with white tongue cost out of curiosity? Same as other breeds chicks or slightly higher?

Probably a little more just because it is harder to find a breeder and the breeder probably paid more for the parents.

Her toenails are also a problem. She's pet quality, not show/breeder quality. You might get $20 to $30 for her. Not many people are willing to pay more than that for a backyard layer, regardless of breed.

It all depends on the buyer, why s/he wants the birds, and how they will be used. A knowledgeable buyer will probably only value it slightly more than any other chick, since it can/should only go into a layer flock. It has a little more value just because it is pretty and unique, but not a lot more. A fair price would likely be $10-20 for a chick with an obvious fault. If you got a buyer that really wanted the breed but didn't plan to breed them and didn't want to pay the high cost of a "perfect" chick, then you could probably get $25-40 each. It all depends on the buyer and how bad they want the chicks.

I'm not really sure I would agree with everything said here. I am relatively new at raising Cemanis but I have done quite a bit of research. I have hatched three sets of eggs that came from excellent stock...Greenfire and Foxfire....and even some of those had white toes that turned black. Most breeders will tell you...even Greenfire...that white toes are not uncommon. White tongues are more of a problem, but every breeder I have talked to will tell you that the gene can always pop up. It is very difficult to find truly black pairs that will always throw truly black chicks. I can't even say it is absolutely possible at this point. Much work remains to get perfect birds. Personally, I think that is many years down the road as that gene has to be worked out of all breeders. I am by no means an expert and will just be hatching my first birds from my breeders this week. I suggest doing a lot of research and talking to breeders. Read the story from Greenfire. Good luck with your birds. They are truly amazing and beautiful birds.

Hey, This is Suraj from India. I have the same black chicken breed which is called kadaknath chicken in India. I have observed a myth of Ayam Cemani that only the dark black ones are the only original breed and moreover not any researchers have studied the medicinal and nutritional values of this breed. The only hype of Ayam Cemani is it's black color. What would be the demand and price if people comes to know the health benefits in consumption of this black Chicken.

That's really interesting! I didn't know that. They very well could be healthier!
Some people in other countries are a little afraid to try black meat just because it is so different from what they were raised on. However, if they were introduced to it properly it could become very popular.
