Hello!
I had a chicken jail (dog crate) set up for a few weeks- obviously set up with food and water, which was spilled numerous times over the weeks. I clean up dropping multiple times a day.

Well today I noticed the ground under the crate was moving! I discovered thousands of these worms!! I’ve searched all over google to identify them but I’m just not sure… they’re all the same size. No signs of further developed beetles…

Someone mentioned lesser mealworms but I’m still not certain if thats correct.

Any ideas?

In the meantime, I removed as much dirt as I could and it’s in the freezer to kill them. I also used a flame weeder and went over what was left to kill eggs or whatever else.

Update! An entomologist confirmed their March Fly larvae. They eat organic matter during hatch, breed and die. He said they harmless should a chicken eat them.
