Can anyone please help? Should I cull or save?

It's true that many people feed raw chicken diets to their dogs. :thumbsup

They do it bones and all! I'm not sure about feathers and I would imagine gutted still? My vet said raw bones yes, cooked bones NO because they splinter. Though I'm not sure a dog without experience can appreciate it. Most the time when we offer uncooked meat to my four legged K-9 friends... they look at me like.. Huh? where's the beef! :p

The first time is often the worst. But when you know you will be able to confidently help other birds in the future, especially those you actually like... having the experience under your belt to know you aren't causing them extra trauma is actually a blessing.

Seems like the broomstick method might be a good choice. Since I've never done it.. I don't know if the bird needs to be weighted down or anything to not become like the saying chicken running around with it's head cut off. :(

:fl
Yea it takes "city dogs" awhile to get used to eating raw meat in my experience... ours eat some of the guts, they tend to pick trough them:D

City dogs. :lau

My hubby says ours still haven't calmed down to the country lifestyle yet, after 3+ years. They still go aggro towards passerby's. We kinda like it that way , after being burglarized in the city! :rant And I can't wait to tell my neighbor that one of them chased the deer off her flowers the other day. (from their own side of the fence of course)

Ah nice with the deer thing... yea ours love the great outdoors!

Another quick question. We put her to rest and she is now in the crockpot HOWEVER she was awfully bad. Just looking at her insides she must have been in a great amount of pain. There was this yellow liquid that was inside her that poured out when we cut her open. Almost like a yolk busted or something .We made sure not to bust the intestines or anything else and not sure what it was. Im still worried. We are NOT going to be eating her. Our DOG will but... just curious if the meat is still okay bc of that liquid. It was definitely salpingitis she had. Theres no question about it now.

I'm not sure where it poured out from but there is often some liquid in the crop still I think when we process.

I would just rinse the meat and cook it like you intend for the dog... BUT I'm no expert. Either wait for a second opinion or go with your gut.

Since we have popped a bile sack, we cut that meat off... but I think it was more green. It's been a long time.

Sorry again for your loss. :( You did exceptional! :hugs

It sounds like she had ascites if she was filled with yellow fluid. That can result from the salpingitis or internal laying or a number of other issues. I do find it helps my peace of mind to open them up after euthanizing them and find something major was amiss like this, as well as improving my knowledge of their body systems and illnesses.
If you are cooking the carcass for the dog, it will be fine. Chicken's bodies do their best to isolate infection by turning it into a cheesy pus, hence the lash eggs in the oviduct, so that it doesn't spread to the rest of the body.

Thank you :hugs Hurts my heart to know she was in that much pain but it made me feel better about culling her.

Thanks so much for the info. That makes me feel better. I just didnt want her to go to waste. I wanted her to have at least some purpose after her death. Im glad we made this decision because after seeing what we saw. I can only imagine how awful she felt all the time before her death.
