Can chickens really explode?

I've head that chickens, like all birds don't have the ability to burp or fart. That being said, i'v heard if you feed a chicken an alka selzter or a soda, BOOM!!!!

is this true?

I dunno but my Golden Comet roo grew up sipping Diet Coke out of my can -- he seemed to burp just fine.

My daughter spends a lot of time with our chickens and says they definitely fart.
Don't know how well they'd tolerate alka seltzer, but.......
