Thank you I wasn’t sure because I read somewhere that they couldn’t so happy I am going to make them next springYes, they can. Theoretically, any dominant solid colored bird can make a sex link.
If you take that red roo and cross him with a barred hen you will have sex-linked barred birds. Males will be red barred, females red.
If you cross him with, say, a Rhode Island White you can create a red sex-link. White males w/ red leakage and red females dilute.
Red leakage is what I meant.Uh, unless it's specifically different in Cochins, red over barred will give you regular black/white barred males (with some red leakage usually) and black females with some red on head/neck/chest. The difference as chicks will be the males will be black with a yellow dot on their heads and the females will be just black. Interestingly enough, if you use a buff male instead of red, you'll get much more leakage on the chicks, and the females' faces will usually be a reddish gold at hatch.
