just out of curiosity can broad breasted bronze and broad breasted white turkeys breed together? They are not going to be for meat but for a pet. Can it be done naturally?

In theory yes, but many times the broad breasted varieties have trouble mating naturally because of their rather exaggerated physical build, or at least trouble mating with enough success to meet commercial standards of fertility, so you might just have to let them try and see if they can make it happen.

Broad breasted turkeys can naturally breed but it is best done using yearling hens and toms. The turkey industry uses artificial insemination with broad breasted turkeys for the convenience and better assurances of fertile eggs.

Broad breasted hens do not make the best hatchers or brooders since they cannot move their legs in the delicate manner that heritage hens can. They can accidentally crush eggs and they can also accidentally step on poults.

Breeding broad breasted turkeys for pets can be a heartbreaking experience since they were not developed to have long lives. Special care will be needed to avoid the health issues that can develop.

Since all turkeys are the same breed (Turkey), any variety of turkey can be successfully bred to any other variety of turkey. In some cases artificial insemination is the best course (broad breasted varieties).

If you want to keep turkeys for pets, I strongly urge that you choose a heritage variety. You can find information on many of the turkey varieties at Porter's Rare Heritage Turkeys.
