I disagree that the use here is covered. It wasn't used as an educational post, not was it an "exerpt" for use in a review. The purpose here was to help someone get around purchasing the copyrighted information. People need to stop being so cheap, buy the books, and support the organization. If you're going to be any kind of an exhibitor, you'll need to educate yourself on much more of the information that is in the Standard than just that which you can pilfer by asking for a few free "exerpts" on line.​

If you have read through this whole thread, there was never any intention to circumvent purchasing the book. Also, the OP is brand new to birds and wants to have a clue of what to expect with his/her first show. Do you know of ANYONE new to ANY hobby who goes out and purchases all the items available for the hobby? Or in many cases even knows WHERE to purchase them? Or which of all the items available for that hobby are really useful versus unnecessary? How is a person new to a hobby supposed to know which is which?

The amount of information copied and posted is much more of an enticement to purchase the standard than it is a means of circumventing purchase. For Pete's sake--it lists points assigned to various traits--it doesn't list why one bird would receive more for a trait than another bird, or even the standard for a particular breed. I do believe that it is an educational post (and this entire thread is educational), and I do believe that it is very much an exerpt for review.

FWIW, Sam Brush has said that breed clubs can post specific portions of the Standard for their breeds on their websites IF THEY ASK PERMISSION BEFOREHAND. I do think it's best to invest in a Standard folks, and fwiw, the APA and the ABA each have their own, with some small differences, so if you're breeding bantams it's worth it to get an ABA standard too. Well worth the money...
