Can I give my 1 month 10 day old chicks a cupcake?

But I want to give them a cupcake. Can I give them this vanilla cupcake with no frosting? What if it was chocolate? Or spice? :p When they are grown up will it hurt them if I give them the frosting? It's buttercream frosting homemade not from the store with preservatives.. I don't want them to get that binding thing! Can they have sugar? And do you think one cupcake for 5 chicks is too much? They're getting pretty big. Thanks

Ya''ll need to chill a little I think,

Don't ask for advice if you don't want it.

I think food is love and I'm not fat but very fit and I Love fruits and veg so that's never been a problem. You know 33% of your calories are supposed to come from fat? Fat's good for you too. I spend all day growing and preparing food for my children friends family and pets and I do it because I love them. Food is love as much as building someone a beautiful house would be, or buying them a diamond ring. I eat foods that are high cal low nutrition too sometimes and as long as it's not going to hurt them in a REAL WAY, they are getting cake on occasion. As long as their digestive systems etc. can handle it..I gave them some crumbs and they got more excited than anything I've given them by far. And I'm going to wait till Thanksgiving and let them celebrate with us with a cupcake. I feel it must be boring for them to eat the same exact foods every day, and from a chickens point of view I still think I want to keep them stimulated. They are 1 month 2 weeks old and I have not given them any junk food or treats at all yet and I want to give them one I don't think once a month is bad. Ya''ll need to chill a little I think, but thanks for the advice. My mom was always telling me no no cake and now I eat cake with breakfast and it's awesome. You know it's not any worse for you than bread. Cake and icecream is as good for you as cerial and milk. We might be healthier if we all ate nothing but oatmeal or would we because I would not even want to liive like that and severe depression is not healthy either :p
Your birds, your decision. I wouldn't do it, but then again cake's rare enough around here that I'm eating it all myself no matter if it doesn't actually harm them, lol. I don't have input on the nutritional standpoint... sorry.

I wanted real advice, can their digestive systems handle it, will it hurt them, not opinions about whether food is love and getting bashed for giving them too many treats when I have not given them one single treat yet.
When I grow a pear and it is sparkling in the morning dew and I pick it to feed my child that's love. When I bake a cake and measure everything so carefully and make sure it looks so beautiful that's love. Is slopping the same ''healthy food'' in front of someone day after day really healthy? Is that love? This is just an opinion of yours, I know people who think they are eating healthy who are frutiarian, vegan, or eat nothing but raw foods, this is just their opinion that this is healthier. Scientific research proves that type of deprivation is really bad for you and this attitude that food is not meant to be enjoyed weirds me out ..I guess I should have expected..

They are you birds do what you want..

Will it kill them...probably not right away. Is is smart to do..Probably not considering all small their crops are and the amount of protein they need at that age to develop. Every ounce of junk food take away space for protein to them...

Will they like it. They might but given a choice they would probably take some meal worms...

Enjoy them what ever you do,,,

Ever since I lost a beloved hen to sour crop I try to avoid giving my chickens anything with sugar or yeast. I'm not sure that was the cause of her illness but it was a traumatic loss and I will now do anything to avoid it happening again. My chickens' favorite treat is pretty much any kind of cheese.. so that's usually their special treat (in moderation because it can have a lot of salt).

Thanks.. a half a cupcake..5 chicks..do you know how much chick starter a day they're eating? omg So much..that would be such a tiny percentage of their food for that day..I should give them worms and cupcake side by side and see which they like better :)

I'm sorry about your hen. What kinds of cheese?

The side by side test is fun but hard with chickens..it seems to be which ever one the first one picks the rest go for.... I hate to break it to you, but chickens are not much smarter than a gold fish...:lau

Also they are almost 6 weeks old so they are at the end of the period of high starter protein...

I can't get mine to take meal worms as easily as I get mine to take the fake ground hamburger dog and cat treats. I limit it, greatly except at shows because of the salt content. BUT they do go nuts for it. They watch me the entire time I am in the barn with them and know where I keep the hamburger....When I go that way they start going nuts...... ( my layer flock has no idea what the hamburger is even....)

Why would you want to give them a cupcake that is nothing but sugar and empty calories? They need the nutrition that is in their feed. Excess sugar can cause diarrhea, and may even upset the bacterial balance in their guts. Treat them like chickens, feed them like chickens. Sod is a great treat for them, b/c it actually benefits them.

They don't get excited about the sod of any of the plants, herbs and seeds I'm bringing them though..they peck at it and eat a tiny bit but is that a treat for them? They got excited about the fruit kale and mushrooms..I gave them about 5 tablespoons for all 5 of them, so 1 tablespoon a piece, 1 mushroom, one strawberry, one grape and a little kale, and put it in with their food and grit so they were eating the starter at the same time..
