I saved a Guinea keet from my neighbors it got left behind by the mother in my yard and just moved in with my two Rhode Island Red hens. Now he is grown up and I say he because he is starting to do the infamous Guinea yell, so I'm wondering now will this be okay? Will they try to mate? Should I get a female guinea to be partners with it? Any help/recommendations is appreciated. Thank you!

I've never had a male guinea try to mate with a chicken. But I agree that he would be happier with another guinea or two.
I'm not sure what sound you are talking about since guineas have a very large vocabulary. However a female is the only one who can make a 'buckwheat' sound. It is a 2 syllable sound that she will repeat continuously. To me it sounds like 'gobackgobackgoback' The male cannot make this sound. A female can and will make every sound a male makes. ;)

Is there any chance you could post a picture? Male guineas usually have large wattles, sometimes cupped. Female wattles are usually smaller and pointed. :hmm

Thank you everyone for your help! Maybe someone with more experience can tell if this is a male or female? If it's a male I will get a female to bond with. Guineas are Interesting fowl :)

Only a female guinea can make a two syllable call. Both sexes can yell in single syllables. I don't see why one guinea can't live with chickens. The males can breed with hens btw. Its rare, but does happen. The resulting chicks/keets/cheets? are sterile.
