Can I put my chicks along with my Cock??

They are most likely going to hurt them bad or bully them into a tissy! They also won't allow them to sleep with them at night(part of the bulleying). I would quick make another cheap coop or just let the big ones out to free range and use your pen for the babies. Blessings,Keri

hey pretti..

until 6 weeks, where did ya leave your chicks?? did ya leave them wid its mom outside in the coop without light, etc??

Ohhh...so you have a mama that hatched babies? That's a different story altogether! I would say by all means leave her with her babies...she will be their "heat source" and let daddy roo and any other adults that present a problem free range until mama raises up those babies! I would just keep the mama and the babies together(another words). Do you have a garage? Maybe you could set up a temporary coop out there for them? Blessings,Keri

At 6 wks. I put my babies outside but that was in Oct.(in NJ) so it was still pretty warm. These were day old babies that I bought online. I attempted to put them in with my Buff Orpie girls(very mothering but still too young themselves) but it didn't work out. They did best by themselves and no...I don't run electric for my chickens...my Hubby would FREAK out! Blessings,Keri

Nope, had them in a brooder in a closet so the other critters couldn't bother them. But then, my incubator hatched them. My hens are horrible broody girls and like to abandon nests 4 days before the eggs are due to hatch.

Bency, because your hen is hatching the babies, they will be fine in the coop with the cock and hen. Both parents will feed the chicks and the cock may even warm them. Mine do. Enjoy:)

Ahhh. Temperature is all relative now isn't it? Night is slightly cold in Salem, India at 27 C (that's 80 F for those of us in the states). I thought it was pretty warm here yesterday when it reached 45 F (that's 7 C ) and I didn't need a hat and gloves!

What kind of chickens do you have, Bency? Just to clarify the information that was spread over several posts, you have a hen and rooster in a coop in Salem, India (think tropical heat). The hen is setting on eggs right now and it is the first time you have had chicks so you want advice on how to have a nice happy, healthy family of chickens. Maybe some advice on how to tell if a hen is a good mother would be helpful, what to provide for her if she is and what to do if she isn't? I'm not an expert, being new to having chickens myself, but there are many helpful people on here who should be able to answer. Good luck to you!
