Can one chicken lay 2 eggs in one day, as it's first eggs ever?

Lol this is encouraging to read. I just put a review up on the Wyandotte thread stating that mine lay two eggs a day each (on average). I was told this is not possible and asked if I had any proof. I'm new so I didn't realize how sensational that claim was lol. I'm not interested in making amazing claims its just what my experience has been. There seems to be a trend of this in Wyandotte's. Keep in mind I live in Aussie and its sunny here a LOT. Thanks for the great info on this thread everyone.
Wow!

Just saw this post of yours! Thanks for the info. Interesting as my research showed differently. Maybe it depends on the line of the breed?

I found this chart called Henderson’s Chicken Breed Chart http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html which I've been using as a guide. It stated that my Light Sussex should lay between 240-250 pa which is 4-5 eggs pw, but I'm finding, at the moment, that she lays 5-6 eggs pw. But, she is only 27 weeks old so that might work out to 4-5 eggs pw once Winter comes in. I'll just have to review it when she's a year old. This chart also states that Wyandottes lay 180-200 pa which is 3-4 pw. Even if that's correct, it's still not bad at all! But, it sounds as if yours may prove this generalisation wrong. Only time will tell. I'm curious to find out how many eggs pw my Wyandotte/Maran crosses will lay. Hopefully, the Wyandotte side comes through as the Marans supposedly don't lay as many as the Wyandottes.

I've actually got two Wyandotte/Silkies that look like Wyandottes. You wouldn't know they had Silky in them except for the fact that they occasionally trill like one! So, with them, not only am I hoping they lay like Wyandottes but I'm hoping that they will also lay like Wyandottes rather than like a Silkie!

Patience!

I live in Aussie land too, Claye! As to whether the sun here has anything to do with it, I don't know. Lol!

Hey! Just thought.... where did you get your Wyandottes?

Enjoy your chickens!

Hello ello Chickychooky. I got mine from a guy in upper Caboolture Queensland, he just moved from W.A. He also does Light Lussex (which I loved) they are going to be my next addition. My Wyandottes have calmed down a little now but are still laying one egg a day each. I am new to this game and was blown away at how well they lay.

I just collected two eggs from my BLRW. I could not believe it so I too had to search the web to see if anyone else has had this experience. This hen is about 11 mo old and we are just now going into Spring, she went broody on me last December but has been laying regularly again since mid-February. I did not let her keep any eggs because it was too cold here for chicks.

I know that it was her because I have caged off the one nesting box that she was using (hoping she would go broody again) and she is too territorial to allow another hen in with her, and since I am now collecting eggs to incubate I have been out there several times in the last few hours checking under her for an egg. She is a talker and usually spends several hours on the nest before doing her business, so when I went out this last time I felt under her and there were two eggs, same color and size although one weighed 2 grams less.

I have an Ameraucana hen that is over a year old, and she has laid 2 eggs in the same day several times. It has been after a day that she hasn't laid any so we are guessing she is somehow holding one. She is the only one that lays a green egg, so we know it is hers and I check thoroughly 2 to 3 times daily. My husband thought perhaps I didn't see it the previous day but I knew otherwise! Also she is the only one that normally lays 13 days out of 14 so if I don't get a green egg I double check. I am glad to find this thread and know I'm not senile yet! I also have 3 red sex links that lay absurdly huge eggs and 2 blue lace Wyandottes that lay medium eggs and they are all very good layers too. But Muppet the Ameraucana is the best.

I bought our first hen several weeks ago. She was the only one we had and her first morning I came out to two eggs. One solid and the other a rubber egg, so yes, it's possible. No other chickens to blame there! :)

Our 6 month (and a few days) old chickens presented us with 2 eggs today, the first.  My wife is convinced that one of the hens (a silver laced Wyandotte) laid them both.

Is that possible?  I imagine it is, but figured you folks would know better than me.

Thanks for your expertise in advance.
I only have one chicken (Lyla) ,laying at the moment and yesterday I came home to one normal size egg and one perfectly formed mini egg! Not 100% sure it's not my other chicken (Joni)... Who hasn't started laying yet... But apart from size they were identical in every other way! Lyla is a light Sussex and Joni a bluebell... Keep you posted when I know for sure

I have a wyandotte pulllet who has been laying for just about two months. She has left me two eggs on the same day five or six times (during late spring and early summer). Each time the eggs are normal size and color. The weather has been warm and humid.

I just searched this thread.. glad I found it.

I have 2 Leghorns that are around 1 YR and laying. I just brought them home yesterday, and within an hour of arrival I had 2 eggs. Today I found Ol' Widow Hen in the box. She has a very swollen and bald rear end, but the breeder told me not to worry. When I looked into the coop, she stood up to move, and there were 0 eggs under her. She gave me hell, so I closed the box and stood outside doing other things for about 30 minutes. I was near the coop, and OWH was the only one that was in the coop while I was out there. She was very noisy the entire time, but I figured she was just mad at me/laying her egg.. well time passed and she came back out to join her buddies outside so I went to collect the egg.. and there was TWO! Both still very warm. I will wait to see if my other Leghorn lays today.. they tend to lay between 11AM and 1 PM.

Her rear also seems much less swollen after, as I suspect, passing two eggs.

Hi! I'm here because I got a fright this morning when i found 4 eggs from 3 hens! I can only assume that one of my girls layed twice! I have 2 australorpes and one Rhode Island red. The red usally lays larger eggs than the australorpes, so I usually get one large and two small eggs each day. As there was a third small egg, I'm guessing that this was from one of the australorpes. Very unexpected. I gather from this post that it's not all that unusual to have one girl lay twice in one morning? Cheers:)
