Can open,worms,everwhere!! To much info...vegan....animals....meat...

It's getting where it's easier and easier to find meat locally that someone else raised and processed humanely and healthfully, as well as someone to process your animals.

We started this flock partly with the idea of eating roos and older birds, and hatching our own replacements. We've finally gotten where we enjoy the roos around 16 weeks, but there was a learning curve.

Ok now it has gotten worse. I have 12 roosters and I can't find anyone to process them. I can't I just can't. Mountainman says they are my roosters and he is not touching them. I want to eat them in theory as I know how well they are cared for and what they are fed but I can't do it myself.

Have you looked into joining a CSA(Community Supported Agriculture)?
There are quite a few around here and some offer meat, egg and milk options.

Great! Hope you find one near you. I'm joining one this spring - without the meat/egg option. We have our own chickens for eggs(we don't eat our chickens though- even the old girls - because we NAMED them!

Hmmm,
Nothing to add.. Try and find someone to process for you. Is it just the killing? If so you could maybe set someone up and have them just do the killing and then you could process the birds yourself once they are dead....

My father when he was in his late 70's got "soft" he could not even kill a raccoon in a live trap.. No interest in killing anything, and he was a hunter or a farmer his whole life.

Me I do not like killing one bit! But I do it, it is how meat is put on the table.

that isn't as uncommon as you may think. I have friends on the board here who I trade off with. My animals I bond with I don't process myself. Most of them I don't, but it happens sometimes.. and Vice Versa. I've done a drive by put to sleep for sick or injured animals while my dad came out to my house to do the same.

Once it is done, meat is meat. Have you tried contacting your local extension office for information on processors? They may be able to help you there.

I can't kill my own or clean them either after they turn into meat I think I will be ok with eating them. I have tried to find CSA in this area and the closest is about an hour away so I am going back to trying to find someone to do the dirty deed for me. I have a couple months to find someone so hopefully I will but I may end up selling the roos if I can't.
