There was that lobbyist a few years ago who made internet history and became the source of hilarious memes. He was saying that glyphosate is safe, safe enough to drink, then the interviewer surprised him by actually inviting him to drink some. His answer : "No, I'm not stupid."

Then he leaves calling the interviewer "a complete jerk".

News a few weeks ago of Bayer (who bought Monsanto a while ago) shareholders being very upset with the CEO and an analyst saying about Bayer “the erstwhile pharma giant has mutated into a dwarf".

My DH sprayed Scott’s Turfbuilder Weed and Feed on the entire yard this spring. I called the customer service number for Scott’s and was told NOT to let the chickens or other grazing animals on the yard for an entire year!

I was told that they have not done studies regarding Mecoprop-p toxicity to chickens or the effect on eggs, but they have done studies regarding grazing animals and strongly recommend not allowing the chickens back on the yard until next year.

Scott’s customer service can be reached at 937/644-0011.

The active ingredient in Roundup is glyphosate. Monsanto suggests that glyphosate is safe for chickens, but I don’t know if they’ve looked at how or if it’s passed through to the eggs. Personally, we won’t be using any weed and feed products anymore. I can live with dandelions!

Around 4 months ago our next door neighbor sprayed roundup on our fence base to kill off weeds. Ever since then we've been having chickens die mysteriously. Most of them seem to have breathing issues and then stop eating. We've always had a healthy flock before. We gave Sulmet to a couple sick chickens but it didn't help one bit. Our most recent death was yesterday when I found a large, seemingly fine, rooster on the coop floor dead. The day before he acted completely normal and didn't have any wounds on his body. Do you think roundup could had killed them?

Thanks,

Silke

Oh Silke lover, I do think so. Make sure to protect against it ever happenings to you, or your flock again.

Herbicides sre not safe, period. Some remain active for months, and remain in the soil for years.
When companies have testing done, it is only as good as the questions asked and the methodologies employed. You'd be surprised at how many respected doctors come up with "conclusions" that can be completely torn apart by someone that knows enough about the subject, because the research was poorly set up.
Companies don't want negative results unless they can't be denied. Testing companies want future business. That's a bad combination for safety.
Do check your coops for mold, fungus--including mushrooms--and don't let them eat rye at all because of the increased threat of ergot. Other grains can have it too, but rye is the most prone to it. Make sure their food is fresh and properly stored in a DRY area. Don't feed them bread because of the increased potential of aspergillosis.
I do hope you can isolate the cause. Chickens are browsers--do you have toxic plants available to them? Foxglove (digitalis), Datura, etc. etc.. There are lists on the internet. It's a long list....
