can someone explain coronation color for me? calling Genetic folks

They are big beautiful and nice friendly birds. Plan on breeding the lavender Sussex/Orpingtons to our other Coronation rooster soon.

I DO think that's why they do it. So whoever buys them has to wait some time before they can sell them too. Then they can keep charging lots of money because they are hard to find......for now.
Guess that's what they call "protecting your investment", because it is very expensive to import.

Why are they selling the split?

Do they not have a female?

The Coronation Sussex are worth a good deal more than the Light Sussex. There will always be excess cockerels, pairing up the Coronation with lights ensures a higher price while as Happy Mountain said, ensuring that the buyer will not be selling Coronations for a season.

Why would you do that? It is entirely up to you what you do with your birds but what benefit could there be in crossing nice Coronation Sussex with the lavender project birds?
It would spoil the nice Sussex type, of those particular Sussex, to no benefit & it would be a poor start to anything Orpington as the lavedner project birds do not, yet, have the type of any breed in order to start another project.

Krys- I agree it takes away from the Sussex but wanted to have the lavender gene from the Australian line to improve the lavender that is in the US project birds.

I am keeping all the Australian Sussex pure and working on improving a good thing.

I'm not sure what you mean. Lavender is lavender. The gene is still the same gene. Introducing the Coronation Sussex will introduce unwanted genes such as wheaten & columbian into your lavender project birds which are supposed to be black based, thus very likely causing colour leakage in your project birds.
If you are wanting to create a lavender columbian Orpington, the fastest & easiest option would be crossing to one of the existing colours of Orpington & using birds with excellent Orpingtion type .

The lavenders that I produced from the Coronation Sussex have a better feather quality and color than what I have seen so far in the US. Just thinking of what direction to go in next.

I know what you mean. Lavender can have a problem with feather quality. I'm not sure why.
It is interesting that you find your crosses better in that respect. I wonder whether your result could imply the lack of feather quality might be caused by a recessive gene closely linked to the lavender gene.
