Can someone help me identify what I'm dealing with (pic included)

You can also just place a tablet in the back of the beak, and they will swallow it. I have also hidden medicine in small pieces of liverwurst, in canned cat food, or in egg mixture. Lots of different idea from people here on BYC. Good luck, and keep us posted on recovery.
I always wondered, can you do the same thing with a capsule? I've never seen it mentioned, is that a "no-no"?

Seems like they can grind up all kinds of stuff in the gizzard, a dissolving capsule should be no problem.

Thoughts.?

Oh I think a capsule would be okay. They (capsule) sometimes get stuck when they hit something wet, but just check to see if they swallow it. You could also coat it in something good like liverwurst, cheese, or pate type canned cat food. I have to swallow capsules with milk rather than water because they get stuck in my throat easily.

I will check in at a later date and let you know for sure. I am going on the web site you gave me and order the fix mox today....thanks so much for the help

I've never seen a pill of any sort get stuck in a chicken's throat. They are consummate experts at firing the pill out their beak like a bullet from a rifle unless I get it far enough back onto the tongue.

In my old age, I'm now have trouble swallowing pills, and it seems I have more to swallow each year. So, we should start a club or something.

I don’t know about pilling birds, but if a person tips their chin down towards their chest it makes swallowing pills (especially large dry tablet ones) easier. I learned this from a nurse from one of my Great-aunts during her cancer treatment. Seems counterproductive but it works...

Try taking meds with milk or chocolate milk— my husband suggested it since, mine always stuck with just water. It really works by lubing the throat. Some medicines like zithromax (azythromycin, “Zpak”) or osteoporosis pills can get stuck and perforate the esophagus if they get stuck, and you need to drink a few ounces of liquid to make sure those go down. Aspirin and ibuprofen can also cause esophagitis if they don’t go all the way down.

I tell everyone, order a small container of Quick Clot while you're at it. Always good to have on hand for when they break a nail or chip a beak, will be much less stressful on you if you can quickly stop the bleeding.

Interesting....my dad always suffered with taking pills....too bad I didn't hear this while he was alive.. But I will remember it.
