can someone please help me with a bumblefoot question? (post #9)

Just did my first bumble foot treatment. I had suspected it and when I did my monthly foot check there it was. I put vaseline on it to soften and put her in quarentine last night....today the plug just pulled right out.... it did bleed a little., I filled the hole with neo and wrapped her up.... will check tomorrow and keep you posted.

Good questions. On both hen's feet, some cheesy rubbery stuff came out but not a lot. No blood. They did not seem to be in pain at all. On the second hen, it was harder to get the scab out, and I was working hard to get the scab off. It looked like it hurt, but they seemed like it didn't at all.

Both are doing fine now. Still limping of course because of the hole in their foot. I went to check on them a few minutes ago and one was roosting high and the other was laying down. They seemed fine and are getting along well. (Its a RIR and a BSL hen)

I am soooo confused. After reading this, and other, bumblefoot posts, there seem to be so many different things to put on the foot after soaking. I have seen neosporin, vasaline, prep. H (what does that do?), melafix, betadine, etc. I have two hens with bumblefoot. One has a small black dot on the pad of each foot and the other has a large one (like in the picture posted by Jacobsenbd) on one pad and on the middle toe of the other foot. I have been soaking them in epsom salt and them putting melafix (had it handy) on the wound, then wrapping them with gauze and vetwrap. Do I need to be putting neosporin or vasaline or prep. H on also to soften the scabs? I have only treated them twice so far.
