Can stress kill chickens

Very sad. Hope you can find the cause, for future flocks. Whatever caused it, dogs can not be helping. Stress can cause underlying problems to manifest themselves. It is not like those breeds are prone to heart attacks like a Cornish-X would be. There are so many bad germs out there, I can not weigh in on the necropsy debate, since I never got one for a chicken. For chickens, often hear-say and by-guess or by-God is the diagnosis. Our chickens do not get much attention from vets.

Those breeds are not breeds I would think would keel over from fear, at least not so many and of different breeds. Maybe the rare individual with some kind of heart defect.

Very true.

Exactly.

I'm not sure why so many people won't even consider a necropsy, especially in places where they are free or cheap.

I am not in the chicken game for the last 20+ years, just pet parrots. But, I did not even consider going to a state vet when I had chickens in CA. They are likely to come out an put down your whole flock, if you have a disease that could endanger the commercial flocks. In the past, in my experience, we were pretty under the radar about our chickens. Now, my vet in Phoenix is an Avian specialist and I have seen chickens in her office! It is really a whole new world since I last had chickens! I love it!:celebrate

The list of diseases that they will cull your flock for is quite short, and I don't think they've done any flock culling since bird flu last year.

I must admit, I am old and out of date on some recent things, but the fear was out there when I last had chickens. We just talked at the feed store, no internet then! One being Exotic Newcastle Disease, better known as END. Parrot owners still live in fear.
