Can you get them into lukewarm water deep enough to float in? It might help their muscles relax and often ducks drink out of what they are swimming in. I wonder if something oily like olive oil might help move things.

I am so sorry, I hope Fred continues to mend, now you'll have to be on the look out for Fred a friend, he'll be awful lonely. At least there is hope since he's still with you.Rita died during the night. Fred is just doing okay. I'll try warm water in the pool
Actually, I had two 4 year old chickens and one just died out of the blue one day an hour after I left them in June. Then Easter went broody three weeks ago, so I bought some eggs on Ebay so that she wouldn't be lonely and just for fun put in three duck eggs. I now have one beautiful baby duck about 4 days old, so if Fred survives he WILL have company. At least I have that to look forward to and maybe the other two (and 6 chicken eggs) will hatch also. So much for keeping only four! They're addicting, just wish there wasn't so much heart ache involved.
