Can too much finely cracked corn make ducks ill.........Will they die?

Can you get them into lukewarm water deep enough to float in? It might help their muscles relax and often ducks drink out of what they are swimming in. I wonder if something oily like olive oil might help move things.

Thats why i mentioned the molasses maybe they need to get this suff moving through their system.

feather, sorry you having these problems. I am with Amiga on the warm water swim and Lydia on the molasses water to drink (only a couple of hours) to help flush anything harmful that he could have eaten.

Actually, I had two 4 year old chickens and one just died out of the blue one day an hour after I left them in June. Then Easter went broody three weeks ago, so I bought some eggs on Ebay so that she wouldn't be lonely and just for fun put in three duck eggs. I now have one beautiful baby duck about 4 days old, so if Fred survives he WILL have company. At least I have that to look forward to and maybe the other two (and 6 chicken eggs) will hatch also. So much for keeping only four! They're addicting, just wish there wasn't so much heart ache involved.

Sorry for your loss. I'm going to show DH this thread and I think this will back me up with my refusal to go out of town. We were invivted to a wedding next month up north, I will not be attending. First, we are new to where we are living but even before it would be hard to find someone to trust to take care of them and the dogs.

The last time we both went on vacation ( a cruise in 2007?) we returned from our cruise to find out that our 8 year old great dane had not been doing well almost the entire time. We had a pet sitter that we had used before. We ended up putting her to sleep the day after we returned. We don't think that anything malicious or neglectful was done but that she was older and the break in routine threw her off her norm. We chose to look at is as she waited for us to return so that we could say goodbye.

But after that, even without fault on anyone's part, I have not gone away.

I am glad to hear that you have a little one growing up that can keep your other one company.

wait, I think it is important to get away, even for a weekend. you need your time for recreation. Farm animals require a lot of work....even back yard flocks are a handful. I rue the day that things go wrong, however my husband, my family, my self, needs down time. Find a reliable sitter (mine had beginners alzheimers but I thought he was okay......Not). Do not sacrifice yourself!!
