Can too much green grass turn slate blue legs white?

I hate to say this but a true Ameraucana has slate legs. With that said I have seen green legs but never white on any description. Some reputable breeders will use othe breeds to get a certain attribute and then keep that attribute and breed all others out and so sometimes you get say white legs on some but not all but they may still be pure enough to resemble the standard and meet the minimum reqirements. Or so I am told. If you breed them I would avoid using the white legged ones.

It's not white. It's a pale blue to a pinky grey. The two breeders we have do not breed in other breeds. I would mention their names, but I don't want to embarrass or offend anyone. These breeders do not barely meet the standard, they win. I don't mean to sound rude, but, I do not raise any form of Easter Egger or Americana chickens. These are purebred Ameraucana chickens.

I would contact the breeders. They have a lot of experience with the breed and your chickens' lines in particular and should be able to answer you best.

Both the buff and the wheaten varieties of ameraucana generally have lighter colored slate legs. It has something to do with being based on wheaten.

After sorting through your birds for breeders, pick the birds with the darkest legs to breed from especially from the cock bird.

Not all of them have the lighter legs. We have culled down to just darker legged roos, with about half of our pullets being lighter legged.

Can a corn based supplement dilute the coloring of Ameraucana legs?

It just happens. These birds aren't perfect; not all of them make the cut. I raise around 300 birds a year and only keep a handful......

Light legs show up and sometimes so do birds with very dark legs.

Do you know any adults that you trust who are good chicken people and I mean real chicken raisers, that can help you in the future picking better pure bred birds.
