Hangin: I have since moved the light higher, so I don't think melting will be a problem. It's not coated in plastic, just powder-coated paint I believe. But thanks, good thought!

I never thought of using spare wire shelving, GREAT idea! I didn't want to cut the lid to the plastic tub I use as a brooder and this solves that problem, though I still need to keep my dogs out of the laundry/chick room.... Help, they're taking over the house again. LOL
