Can you help with gender and breed of these two..having my doubts

[Red Barn Farms]

These two were newly hatched when purchased with the assumption they were RI R's. I'm having my doubts because of the light coloring and the small amount of buff on a few tips of the feathers. They were mostly solid red when bought with one having a light reddish head and the other a yellow head. I think they are possibly production red's or New Hampshire. I'm thinking one pullet and one cockerel. Also notice the feathers on the one on the right in first image which I think is the pullet. I've not seen one with feathers sticking out so much. Almost a frizzle? What's every ones opinion on these two. Thanks in advance. They were purchased from an Amish family where a lot of my flock do come from.





The one on the right has a comb about twice the size from the one on the left in this image. Hard to tell from my lousy picture but it is also starting to develop a small wattle.



So, maybe I'm correct in naming them Jacob 'left' and Sarah 'right'.

Hi,
I would say the one on the right is a rooster, he has a larger redder comb and he's much larger than the other.
The other I would say is a pullet

My guess is you are correct. The larger combed one represents a young cockerel and the smaller one is your pullet. As far as breed I'm going with New Hampshire Red.

Just mixed red chickens. The New Hampshire (no red) was bred out of the Rhode Island Red. Folks and hatcheries have been breeding production type, generic barnyard red chickens for a long, long time. No they're not RIR.

Chances are they'll be good chickens for you. Enjoy them.

I'm with Fred, generic red chickens.
I do think they're both cockerals, though. One's just slower than the other.
