This is "Clementine", I say shes a hen, my boyfriend says rooster. Can anyone help? I'm going off the hackle feathers being rounded and he's going off the long tail feathers and comb development (my favorite hen goldy had a early comb development and a attitude problem, we thought for sure she was gonna be a rooster.) She will be 9 weeks old this weekend coming.

At nine weeks old, cockerel. You won't see saddle feathers developing for a few more weeks yet.

Sorry, that is 100% cockerel, comb and wattle way to big to be a hen.

100% cockerel, the comb, bright legs, and feathers are a big giveaway by the look of his age and size. To me, he seems to be either a Fayoumi or Campine.

Cockerel 100%. Hackle feather aren't a very accurate way of sexing. Age + comb development is much more accurate. That much comb at 9 weeks will almost always be a cockerel.

Hi there.

Both you and your boyfriend are wrong as they don't get the badge of hen or rooster until reaching 1 year old. Pullet or cockerel before that.

But your boyfriend is closer... that is indeed a cockerel at the stated age. As noted by the other poster.. gender feathers are NOT in on most birds this age. Also hackle and sickle feathers have more room for deception. Once coming in the saddle feathers don't lie on *most* breeds...

Guessing you cant keep roosters in your area? If you can, keep one, they are great, but if not, I am sorry for your loss. Try to sell him to a good home if you can.

YOu could try to rehome him if you wanted him to have a home, where are you located?
