There should be an option to post a new thread right by where it says to post a reply. or you can go to the forum drop down button, select a category and then find the start a new thread button above the threads in that category.

I found how to start one but can't seem to load pictures...I was told to sex chicken you are to pick them up in both hands holding the wings down and tip them foreward and if they fan their tail feathers...its a hen

I've never heard of that method. I know there are other "ways" to sex birds (for example, holding them by their legs and seeing if they struggle or not), but I don't think that any of them are that accurate. The best way to tell is by comb development, the presence of pointed tail, neck, and saddle feathers (only males have those), and sometimes by the growth of the bird.

True...that's the best way ...hens don't have saddle feather...and roosters don't lay yummy eggs.

I was just relaying what I was told...they fan their tailfeathers to protect the chicks...

Here are some updated pictures- taken today. I am very unhappy to say that I am almost positive that my SLW is a roo. I noticed today that he has little bumps on the inside of his legs(spurs, I'm assuming). I still think that my cochin, Greta is a hen. She looks just like my big girl Jetta. I will be so sad to get rid of my SLW as he is very friendly and I've become quite attached to both of these cuties. I'm afraid that Greta just wont know what to do with herself without him. They never leave each others side. I decided that I am going to eat him once I know for sure that he is a roo(if I cant find a new home for him to live out his life). I just don't want to sell him to someone else to eat who wont appreciate him as much as me. I have three other chicks that are about 7 weeks old and I am pretty sure my Americana is a roo. I will post pictures of them in a few weeks.

Yes, your Silver-Laced Wyandotte does appear to be a rooster, as I can now see pointed hackle feathers and the beginnings of pointed saddle feathers. I am sorry...

Both genders get spur bumps or nubs, that's not a reliable sexing indicator. But that's still a rooster.

You could post clear, pictures of their heads (to show combs) and profile to show hackles etc. on the "what gender or breed is this," thread.

also go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum to locate and post on your state thread. You may be able to find locals who would love to have a beautiful roo like that in charge of their hens. Maybe you could even do a swap for a definite hen.
