Absolutely gutted. We just got all of our chicks starting out new flock from DC HERITAGE about 4 weeks ago, and by chance hubby just found a comment on Facebook, that led to a Google search that turned up this post. So disappointed and angry that this place is still involved in breeding and raising animals, and really devastated that I just funded their operation, however innocently :_;
Looking back at some comments from others now, they point out things I didn't think about as a complete beginner — complete lack of bio-security procedures, for example. She also seemed to have, to my eyes, an incredible amount of chicks... I assumed she was shipping a lot, but now I have many doubts about what is happening to the surplus chicks. Although the chicks and pullets I have seem to be in good health, and conditions were clean, although possibly a little crowded (again, my lack of experience plays against me here), I didn't see the barn where she got my rooster from
At least my chicks have a good home now, but we'll never buy from this family again
Hopefully my post will bump this topic up for this year so nobody else in Ontario or Québec gets caught out by these people.
