A reliable automatic incubator has been ordered for the school!! Yay! I’m just building up the test flock. We’ll need plenty more, and all of the hatching for that flock will be done at the school soon. The little test flock successfully brooded two little batches but very few kids got to witness as it was during closure. I’ve got mixed birds, my favorite are my BR x AC,and I have some beautiful bantams, and one peacomb black bantam that we got from a friend that didn’t like her, she’s the boss now. the schools chickens are mostly BOs and BO x BR, but I’ll be mixing it up
 
Ontario folks, can anyone suggest a decent silkie breeder? I'm hoping to avoid kijiji and deal with people who won't get irritated if I ask breed specific questions or ask for pictures not taken from google of their stock. I had hoped to brood a pair or trio of something other than blacks over winter to introduce in the spring, as I already have blacks. Hubby finally agreed that silkie babies definitely don't fall under the "No chickens in the House" rule and I'd like to take advantage of it while I can. He'll be just as head over heels as I am by spring! :ya

Oh, I'm jealous! That sounds like an amazingly fun class to teach! Unfortunately, they don't introduce egg incubating to students around here unless you're in the grade 10/11 agriculture class, and that's only if you're lucky enough to have the class during the second half of the year (the fall class propagates root cuttings, which is great, but they're not chickens!).

Mixes are so much fun, I've got the strangest looking SFH x Isbar pullet who's the oddest looking girl, pretty but mean as the night is long!

I love my Job, I’m not a teacher, I’m a one on one worker, and EA when possible. I also take care of the chickens and the garden at the school. The garden/ greenhouse area needs tons of work but I’ve got some great plans. We’re short staffed and it’s an amazing strength based trauma informed school in the beautiful Nuxalk valley(hint hint)

Well I'm in Alberta, but we order from a hatchery that I'm pretty sure ships Canada wide, and they usually have white silkies. It's Rochester Hatchery.
