Canadians check in here....

well, here are a few of them! i have 22 as of this morning, from 27 eggs! and 2 more were zipping this morning as i headed out for work. i don't think the other 3 eggs will do anything because they feel too light. but we'll see. they are all from a barred rock rooster, and hens were RIR, New Hampshire and Columbian x RIR, so i'm not surprised at all the dark grey/black. they will have interesting patterns though, judging by all the spots and stripes.

AMAZING! I just went ahead and more or less ordered a Brinsea. I know, lots more money, but from what I have read.....
I kind of found a lady who breeds the BASQUE birds, and has hatching eggs of that pure strain, and crossed with Ameraucana! I missed out on her 8---- 3 week old chicks of that cross for a measly $2 ea. I am just not set up for brooding birds out in the barn, but am fast trying to come up with a plan to do so!! I need to build me a box, or get a cage big enough, rig a heat lamp, and keep it NON drafty!! Hard to do in an old bank barn, with the south side open (overhang out there, with the beef cows underneath). I must come up with something soon.
Loved the pics! Hope they do well for you!

So this is my brooder....it lives in the house for the first 2 weeks, and then will go out into the coop, chicks stay in the brooder until about 4wks and then i hang the heat lamp from the roof of the coop and they can come and go from under as they want...
just made with some old lumber about 3x3 feet....tall enough (18 inches) for the little ones that they aren't too drafty. last time i got day olds i had them in the house for 6 weeks and the dust was crazy, i have vowed not to do that this time! 3 weeks TOPS!

(since i have hatches 1 week apart i can justify 3 weeks......)

Hope you can get something soon and get those eggs! i bet your are excited about the incubator!!!!! i know i could barely wait for mine to be delivered!

Awesome brooder! I would need to make it cat and coon safe. I JUST divided (well, it IS divided, I just shooed the hens to the big part, and shut the door, lol), my hen house, and got it all cleaned up for 3 PALM TURKEYS!! Two hens and a tom!!!! So excited, and not so far from here. Got them thru Kijiji! So, my plan for travelling to Trenton for day olds is off, thank goodness! These are 5 months old, and should breed this season coming. The guy I emailed for the incubator hasn't contacted me yet :((( Whats up with that? This would be about a $600 sale? Maybe I better email him again. They are in B.C. I so want to put turkey eggs in it now. And, cross my hens with this rooster I have.. and put my guinea eggs in it, I should get!! I so WANNA!!! lol. I am probably crazy, all this will take place when the 40 some beef cows will be calving!

i put a layer of chicken wire on the top...keeps the dogs out in any event around my place....i still watch them though!

any news on the incubator? congrats on the turkeys! hhhhhmmmmm are you excited? i can't really tell

we wouldn't have it any other way or we'd all be bored i think! we cancelled making maple syrup this spring-weather has been really weird, too warm, too many chicken happening, horses and horse upkeep-clyde feet are HUGE and takes me about half a day to trim all of them...my "real job" is too busy, and the hubby's business is Crazy

forget cleaning the house lol. i am happy i dont have cows or sheep or other assorted livestock! we help out down the road during calving season....should be any day now! sure hope it goes well. here's hoping the incubator is coming! i locked down 35 ckicken eggs this afternoon-i gave a few to my broody hen to see how that goes. they should hatch mon/tues. i may have some chicks to sell from this batch...maybe!

Hey.. we do maple syrup, and we have 4 horses.. 3 quarter, and one Begian mare. I pay to have the feet trimmed tho.. my blacksmith only charges me $80 to do all four. I am not sure about the syrup situation here. We only tap about a hundred trees... so we aren't in any huge production. Frigged up more batches last year and that makes me mad now.. thinking we may not get ANY this year. But, it would take a book to tell how stupid we/I am, lol.

Hi neighbors,

Was wondering if anyone in the Sault Ste Marie area had hatching eggs? I am particularly looking for basque chickens. Just drop me a PM if you can help out - Thanks! Mary

Hi Mary. Im in the Sault but dont have hatching eggs. In fact I dont have chickens YET....but that should be soon to change as we bought some land for a small hose and hobby farm.
Seeing you are near by, I hope to use you for insight for breed and such.
Are you in the US or Canada?
